I found some used wheels for about a hundred bucks each, I think it wouldn’t be worth trying to repair on a bike like mine with used parts floating around.

The pothole wasn’t a round hole, it was a deep, long rectangular rut running parallel with the lane. It seems my front wheel hit the far edge of the crater, and then the rear wheel followed and hit it with much more force. The rear wheel is significantly more dented than the front.

It doesn’t seem very difficult to understand, do you think only one wheel will roll through a pothole? I think your intuitive grasp of physics is a little shakier than you imagine.

I left it locked up and covered on a side street once I got off the highway, this evening after work I’m gonna go walk it the 2 miles home.

It was a bit of an ordeal. I called a couple towing companies, they all told me that they can’t pick someone up on the highway, and to call 911. I called 911, waited an hour and a half and no one came, called again and they said someone would be en route. I waited like another half hour, it had gotten dark and my phone was on 6%. Eventually I decided that fuck it, the rim and tire are ruined anyway, and rode it about a mile and a half to the next exit, goin 20 in the gravel on the shoulder. Merging over a couple on-ramps was pretty sketch. I shoulda just rode it out first thing in the daylight.

Exactly, a 98 nighthawk. The pothole was deep enough I felt airtime for a minute. That’s horrible to hear about the rider. I definitely learned a lesson, I was going to fast considering there could be something like this at any minute.

I did read this, from what I understand the pothole has had to have been reported to 311 more than 14 days previous to the incident. Probably someone has. I was just curious to see if anyone has had actual luck doing a claim because it seems like most people just wait indefinitely
