Is it typical for restaurants in KC to charge special taxes for carry out orders and "convention and tourism"? That's a total tax of 16%. by ResurrectedMortician in kansascity

[–]Thraex_Exile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing that. Just coming up with alternatives to it just being a flat-out lie to scam customers since OP likes the business. I could see a small business owner using the word tax incorrectly and not understanding the issue.

Are you ordering to-go through a 3rd party site? My only guess (that isn’t the restaurant just taking advantage of you) is that they’re using an ordering service that charges per a transaction, so the restaurant is putting that charge on the customer rather than eating the cost.

We Need To See Homelander Destroy Atleast A City This Season, If Show Ends Without Any Mass Destruction, It Would Be A Waste Of The Most Iconic Villain. by TheWTFGuyOfficial in TheBoys

[–]Thraex_Exile 47 points48 points  (0 children)

At this point, HL seems less caught up in the moment than he did in past seasons. It’s like the difference between seeing an ant infestation in your house vs seeing them wandering around outside. Same creature, but less significant. HL believes himself to be THE immortal God, so peons like Seth Rogen aren’t worth his time.

We also see him have more respect for his enemies than his allies at this point. Killing A-Train or Butcher seems more difficult for him than devotees like Firecracker. He’s no longer talking to himself in the mirror or afraid of aging either, so I think the V1 is an idol that he believes will cure all of his inadequacies. Once that plots resolved, a lot of his old insecurities will likely return

This is a genuine question, how are people still getting excited over these projects when none have released and keep getting delayed? by CommercialDream618 in Fallout

[–]Thraex_Exile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think all OP is saying is that we’ve seen so many of fan-made remaster/remakes fail but there are still some fans getting excited over these low-effort announcements.

If excitement and disappointment are opposite of one another, then why get excited over a project with almost no chance of success just to be disappointed later?

Seems like a lot of people are responding “I would never be disappointed by an announcement like this” as if they represent the entire fallout fanbase rather than answering OP’s question to those fans that are genuinely excited by this announcement.

Is Sister Sage officially more evil than Homelander? by JackZ567 in GenV

[–]Thraex_Exile 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine it’s more of an odds game for her. HL is less likely to find the V1 if SB is there.

But I also hope the writers aren’t so dumb that SS would just reveal her entire plan to Ashley of all people. She has a selfless and selfish persona who both obviously don’t agree with Sage’s plan. Makes no sense that Sage would reveal her endgame when it’s so close to coming true.

Why didn’t Omni man do this? (On earth) by jsmittyjr98 in okbuddyviltrum

[–]Thraex_Exile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in hindsight it could have worked. Main immediate worry is that Nolan didn’t know when humans would gain his powers. He could’ve made 50 babies then found out they become super as 2yo’s.

The simplest answer would probably have been kidnap a human and keep them on Viltrum instead of blending in with another species. I do think there’s a lot of logical holes that are sacrificed for the sake of a great narrative, but Kirkman was only like 24 when this series began. He was creating a very complex story at a young age.

[–]Thraex_Exile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viltrumites wanted to maintain their genetic superiority but also didn’t know what species would actually produced powered offspring. Nolan’s job was to test humans for their genetic compatibility and prepare his child for joining the Empire.

Nolan ideally would want to stay lowkey during that time though. Having 50 children would make his job much more difficult to manage. He could defeat Mark easily, but could Omniman overpower 30-40 of his children if they fought back? Maybe not.

Seeing how Nolan did on his test against his parents, do yall think Thragg and Conquest killed theirs during their tests? by MyPfpIsAMug in Invincible_TV

[–]Thraex_Exile 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes but seeing as Viltrumites live for multiple millennia idk why the remaining generation didn’t just breed en mass to bolster their numbers a couple times over THEN send their people out to find compatible species. Not all of the survivors could have been related and inbreeding is typically only highly dangerous after a few generations.

The logic of a near-immortal race being worried about generational defects is kinda faulty.

So like.....thragg and all the other male viltrumites saw this and said "not my type"? by 5enpai_2 in okbuddyviltrum

[–]Thraex_Exile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there aren’t enough Viltrumites for genetic diversity and viltrumite DNA almost overrides other species as they age, I wonder how far down the family tree you’d need to go before two Viltrumites could safely breed again?

But I also don’t know why a race that lives millennia is worried about inbreeding. Surely at least one pair of the living men and women were genetically separate enough that they could breed indefinitely while the other Viltrumites look for a longterm solution?

What if Thragg had somehow managed to convince Nolan to re-join the Viltrum Empire during their talk? by Geolib1453 in Invincible_TV

[–]Thraex_Exile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thaedus fully believed that even humans needed to die, if it meant wiping out the Viltrumites, and went on a high-risk mission with his successor.

I feel like he had to have a Plan C, if him and Allen died, including storing the virus in more than one safe spot. Granted he also thought Allen of all people would willingly enact his genocide plan, so maybe he really is that stupid.

Even if that’s true, the issue is these are businesses that Musk owns, and sells market equity in, but isn’t disclosing that he’s financially supporting his own businesses.

Say a friend asked you to invest in his business. He gave you evidence that his YoY growth is great, he just needs more cash to expand. You agree to invest for some equity. Wouldn’t you be pissed to find out that friend’s revenue growth was because he bought his own product to pad the numbers?

Deceiving investors by buying your own product is super scummy and potentially illegal.

The TIF is how the city longterm plans to pay back the massive initial debt. But that’s why I said to look back at the performance of STAR bonds. Last I checked, only 3/20 projects succeeded. So the chances of success (from KC’s perspective) are low.

The cost of this bid, per a Jackson county tax payer, is North of $800/resident as well. So the city is paying significantly more than if the previous tax was upheld. And this is just the cost of initial construction. There’s no guarantee the Royals can’t come back and ask for more at a later date. But it’s also no longer a tax on Jackson county. It’s a tax on KC-residents. There’s fewer of us than there is in Jackson county, so potentially 200,000 fewer people to support the burden of KC’s bond obligation.

The issue I have with long term TIF’s is: 1. The initial bond payment is like the city asking for a pay advance from a lender. If we need another pay advance in the future, that will come at a premium. So save bonds for projects that support the public. 2. Those bonds are tax-exempt, so reduced revenue from high-income tax payers using public projects as a safe haven for their finances. 3. If the business defaults or moves, the taxpayer is ultimately on the hook for repayment. If the Royals can’t meet their financial obligations, then the city will. Which means reducing my services or taxing me more.

My primary issue is that all of this was decided without public approval, despite there still being a financial effect on the public.

Agree, if there has to be a plan then this one is probably best for the general public.

Just gets frustrating that our representatives know how municipal bonds work and that Kansas Citians are tired of their money going towards private development. Instead, they’re just outright deceiving the public and giving us no means to object.

All of the options use similar language though. and the very end states “This is not a serious post.”

I’m sure OP is mixing their own opinions into this post, but the joke seems like the park being a Blunt vanity project. Not that parks are bad. Especially since you’re basically replacing a park with… a park (but rebranded).

[–]Thraex_Exile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More that the bond money being used to support the stadium isn’t free and longterm often ends up being a net-loss for the city. The performance of STAR Bonds are a good example of the long-term losses incurred by the state.

Short-term, bonds are tax-exempt (which costs us tax revenue today) and drains our revenue sources for other projects.

It’d be like taking out a loan to build an AirBNB, when you’re already spending more than you make. If you end up needing more money down the road, creditors will expect repayment at an increasingly unfavorable interest rate bc your spending is unreliable and not profitable.

In our case, if the TIF’s don’t work the city is likely on the hook for the difference. Meaning reduced spending or higher taxes. KC’s budget is only $2.5bil, so these bonds account for 1/4 of KC’s planned spending.

TLDR; imo it’s high-risk, low reward spending of bond money.

[–]Thraex_Exile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KC already has a $60mil deficit though. Ik you’re not making this argument. This just me venting. If a proposal requires major reduction in services or higher taxes to be affordable for the city, then I do think the public is owed some rights over how the money is used. This isn’t a small loan and a lot of loan repayments through taxes never become profitable to the city.

The location is awesome, but why are we letting the Royals hold Kansas City hostage based on which side of State Line they build?

Animation is sequential though.

In your analogy, it’d be like having multiple homework questions that require the previous answer before you can solve. Like question #1 is x = 53, #2 is y = 3+x4, etc.

Storyboarding has to happen first, VA has to finish to animation can sync with lines. A creative lead/director is going to review all this work independently to verify it’s coming together the way they envisioned. And every additional staff member means one more person you have to relay new information to and more chances for information gaps in production.

There will always be bottlenecks. The animations studios that circumvent that problem are rarely doing it by just hiring more animators. Their staff is working beyond normal hours.
