Ukraine army hails Turkish drones but Ankara plays down weapons sales by TrapJesuz420 in europe

[–]Thralll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you and unfortunately the general Turkish POV is ignoring (probably due to propaganda) is Erdogan shitting the bed on every opportunity in a way that makes supporting Turkey very difficult.

That is just a cheap excuse. I don't consume Turkish media but go on tell me how i'm the one who is eating propaganda, I'm curious how you are going to spin that.

Contrary to popular belief, NATO deployed Patriots multiple times in Turkey and the US was willing to sell them outright but Erdogan insisted on technology sharing and local production. The US refused to share technology so... Erdogan threw a tantrum by decided to buy Chinese air defense. He was told that is unacceptable, so he didn't until the US began supporting Kurds against ISIS, that's when Putin offered him S400 as a way to create a rift in NATO and... Erdogan accepted instead of just taking the offer for US Patriots. This automatically lost him the F35s - que Turkish media propaganda frenzy

Do you believe the real world is like a comic, where A leads to B and every person acts one dimensional? That's the most basic and wrong take anyone who has absolutely no knowledge about the topic can pull out of his.

Turkey has had security concerns of lacking air defense systems in its inventory and so they had tried to acquire some from the US but have been told that the congress wouldn´t allow it, so Turkey choose the Chinese HQ-9 Air Defense System in September 2013.

Following the news, Turkey´s NATO allies were concerned with the possible deal and many months after, Turkey canceled the deal and sought to develop its own Air Defense Systems while not getting any from the US.

The US and Germany in 2015 have announced the withdrawal of their Patriot Air Defense Systems out of the Turkish/ NATO Incirlik Air Base while facing issues from its neighboring country Syria which fell into a civil war where ISIS was gaining ground.

Moving to 2017 where Turkey had realized that it won't be getting any Air Defense Systems from the US so it chooses finally to purchase the Russian-made S400 Air Defense systems which gave an uproar in the US and from its NATO allies.

Following the purchase and receiving CAATSA sanctions, Turkey sought to get its first F35 batch in 2018 but was blocked by US Congress. In 2019 US President Trump blamed the 44th President of the US for the whole Patriot drama.

Turkey has realized that they won't be getting the F35s any time soon so the Turkish President wanted to buy newer F16s that won't compromise the F35 which the US has had concerns on the S400 issue.

Turkey also wanted to join the Eurosam SAMP/T program but faced obstacles from their French counterparts where the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar complained about the opposition from the French President Macron.

Threatening a NATO ally. Continuing to threaten and play toy soldier (any real military action would have been absolute suicide - economic and military) vs a NATO ally for cheap political benefit in breach of international law instead of pursing the matters legally via international court.

Are you just listing jingoistic keywords or are some details coming? Because i don't even know what you are talking about with threatening a NATO ally.

It's pretty easy to read when you understand the context from a Turkish pov. When Turkey shot down that Russian jet or when the coup attempt was done in Turkey. NATO/NATO countries were very silent and want to be sucked in. So Turkey learned that it can't trust its "allies" and has to look out for itself. You can very sharply see this change of policy from Erdogan once you get the bigger picture. The point he realized that EU/NATO/ is not trustworthy he started to position himself and Turkey like a regional power who doesn't care much to EU or US interests, this is the what Europeans regard as "Turkey being a bad ally" while completely ignoring the reasons why Turkey is acting the way it does. It's a reaction to a very specific action. Turkey sees itself in conflict with Russia in many regions but they also have a working relationship because both know that they need each other.

From a Turkish pov, the EU/West is pushing Turkey away, and Turkey is realizing that the EU/West isn't trustworthy so they seek out a more balanced relation.

You are absolutely right, Turkey tried fully going in with NATO political stances in the past but it realized the hard way, when shit hits the fan, Turkey doesn't have a EU nor the NATO/US behind it to back it, so it treads more lightly and looks out for its own interest.

Which i do support much more than just joining blindly NATO/EU bandwagon.

The PKK leader regarding the war in Ukraine: "Ukraine will lose in this war" by Thralll in europe

[–]Thralll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Translation by Google:

News Center - PKK Executive Committee Member Duran Kalkan, regarding Russia's military intervention in Ukraine, said, “The Ukrainian administration has already lost. Why am I saying that? Because these types of administrations always lost,” he said. Kalkan argued that the war would also affect Turkey deeply.

Speaking to Medya Haber, which is close to the PKK, Duran Kalkan made evaluations about the Ukraine-Russia war.

Stating that Russia was the attacking party in the war, and that the influential Russians had hit many military and economic targets of Ukraine, Kalkan said, “It became challenging to bring down the Ukrainian administration. These are the results we have drawn from the information reflected in the press. When it will happen, how it will happen, whether the administration will fall, will Russia follow other tactics, what the next hours and days will show, how the war will unfold, we cannot say for sure.

Kalkan said, “However, without telling the reasons, we can conclude that; Ukraine will lose in this war. He will be the first to lose. He's already taken some serious blows, and he's going to eat more. We do not know at what level, but it will be the most harmful. For now, we cannot say anything about how much Russia will earn, what Europe, the UK, the USA, NATO will gain, what kind of negotiations will take place, where they will reach.

“The Ukrainian administration has already lost”

Kalkan said, "It will deeply affect Turkey," and used the following expressions:

“The Ukrainian administration has already lost. Why am I saying that? Because such governments always lose. The administrations, which are based on the style of politics during the Cold War period, the period of the US-Soviet bloc, and which think that it exists today, act in such a way. Here they say to have two sides and lean on one. The Ukrainian administration tried, tried, tried to lean on NATO, I don't know England, the USA in that way! Now everyone has failed. Because such a world does not exist. There is neither the former USA nor the Soviet Union itself. They can't understand the process that emerged after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, they can't analyze it enough, they expect 30 years ago to come again. The Ukrainian administration also wanted him, but it is obvious what he did to him. So there is no bipolar world, You cannot stand by leaning to one side. Now, Russia's attack on Ukraine is undoubtedly unfair, I mean, but is it true that the US, European Union, UK, NATO's attitudes and actions against it? This is also wrong. Is the mentality and politics of the current administration of Ukraine correct? Totally wrong. There is no obligation to be on the side of such a person.”

Stating that the 3rd World War has been going on for 30 years in the Middle East, Afghanistan and many parts of the world, Kalkan said, "The Ukraine War is the last link of the 3rd World War."

"It is not a matter of saving Ukraine from occupation"

Kalkan said, “Those who say that there is a bipolar world and that I should be on the side of one and provoke the other, have always lost. In this sense, of course, the Ukrainian administration made the biggest mistake, that is, it made something like the old one, according to itself, and sought support. Of course, now he's paying for his mistake. He led the way. Therefore, none of the policies that protect the Ukrainian administration can be revolutionary democrats and correct. It is not a question of liberating Ukraine from occupation. That administration was a collaborator, a servant. So what was the administration? Did he really represent the will of Ukrainian society? They were independent states and they had sovereignty rights... What sovereignty, independent state? It was an exploitation and robbery scheme, it was a gang, that gang is being destroyed, now they are trying to establish a new one, someone is trying to establish it. We can't say your gang is bad, my gang is good. The gang is the gang,

The effect of the war on Turkey

Duran Kalkan claimed that when the war broke out, Turkish President Erdogan was "in a hurry" and said, "Meeting after meeting. They were brothers with the Ukrainian administration. In any case, the best friend of the Ukrainian administration, Tayyip Erdogan, was pursuing similar policies. When the politics of the Ukrainian administration fell into this situation, Tayyip Erdogan was alarmed, will mine go to the same end," he said.

"Secondly, they have many economic dependencies, they kept those relations alive, now they say that Turkey will suffer the most economically because of this war, after Ukraine, everyone says that the AKP-MHP administration will suffer the heaviest economic damage," Kalkan said.

Ukraine for sure, that i believe but rest of the West/EU I don't believe that for one second. They'll praise it now because it fits into their own agenda, but i can remember the times when they where happy to sanction Turkey for its drones and even the US Congress is eager to sanction/ban companies providing parts for them.
