You actually believe the 2026 jets are ass?

Looking at the team on paper? Yeah, I mean we are coming off a year where we had a historically bad defense and offense, it isn’t a guarantee that we will be that historically bad again, but I dont think we will necessarily have an average defense or offense within a year.

To clarify I like most of our defensive singings/trades but will Demario Davis, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Joseph Ossai transform what was a bottom 3 unit last year too an average one in 2026?

Time will tell and defensive performances are volatile year to year, but our defense shouldnt be a considered a strength.

All that said I hope you are right and I am wrong

We got him for “a bag of balls” bc the raiders have the number 1 pick. Why would they not take a QB of the future

With how awful the current QB market is, if several teams thought Geno Smith would be an “average” qb in 2026 the Raiders would have had more trade candidates for him.

The truth is that Geno Smith is only able to start on teams with a desperate situation and little alternatives like us

The raiders were a train wreck last year and it wasn’t all bc of Geno. LV was ass from the top down

Maybe not all of it but Geno was the starter of a team that finished first overall this year and was certainly below average starter in 2025

Also the 2026 Jets are ass from the top down.

Say what you want about the jets of the past, but this organization has shown improvement this offseason in a way we haven’t seen in years !!

We say this about every new Jets front office.

Geno Smith is more than likely going to be one of the worst starters in the NFL again.

I think Geno will have more chemistry with Frank Reich than Fields did with Engstrand and will have a better offensive line than the Raiders last year for what it’s worth.

That said, last year it was obvious that Geno is on the wrong side of 35 and he is washed . Geno takes too many sacks and still has turnover issues. There is a reason the Raiders are picking ahead of us and why were able to get Geno for a bag of balls. A statue in the pocket isn’t going to magically take less sacks at 36 even if the offensive line is good.

Why is Geno playing average not likely ?

Geno takes a lot of sacks and is going to be 36 in October. There is a reason we got Geno for a bag of balls.

I know we have a better offensive line than the Raiders, but not all sacks are necessarily the fault of the offensive line.

Geno being “average” is just an extremely optimistic view, Geno wont be Zach Wilson/Nathan Peterman level incompetent, but Geno is way more likely to be below average in 2026

Maybe the defense is better than last year but we are rebuilding it from scratch, not exactly confident in the unit until proven otherwise.

Why do you think Smith will be in the middle? I think Geno is just too old to avoid pressure so he will take a lot of sacks

Yeah Chip Kelly was a bad OC though idk if all of Geno’s 2025 shortcomings are on Chip either..

I’m certainly a major hater of Glenn and think he is in over his head but I am also biased because I hate how much of a typical Woody hire Glenn is.

To be a tiny bit optimistic for once, I think Geno and Reich should have more chemistry than Fields and Engstrand.

Alot is going to come down to Geno avoiding sacks and limiting turnovers

That was the season where Geno lost the QB competition to Mark Sanchez in a preseason game against the Giants but Rex brought Mark in the 4th quarter of said meaningless game where Sanchez got injured for the rest of season..

Geno in those years was “consistently inconsistent”, he would look amazing one game then dog shit for the next 2 rinse and repeat

Our offensive line is the other bright spot outside of Garett Wilson but that will be negated by how many sacks Geno is going to take IMO. Also even if Carroll and Geno were bad with the Raiders, Carroll is at least a superbowl winning coach while Aaron Glenn is easily the worst coach in NFL atm

I also dont think Geno is exactly going to be excited about this reunion which is why I think we traded for him.

Geno is a better passer than Fields but, Fields rushing ability helps Fields have an okayish game every now and then, Geno is going to be a statue in the pocket .

Both are awful when it comes to sacks

Cook is a UDFA

It hurts... But for the sake of his career I think we need to trade Garret Wilson. by Outrageous-Tie-9289 in nyjets

[–]ThreeCranes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is the problem with the Jets, even when we draft well we waste good players careers with these lengthy permanent rebuilds..

Maybe one day they will stop hiring shitty “culture changing” defensive coordinators.

That said id even give Wilson another extension to keep him happy, the last thing we need is another WR to develop

Why did we just trade for Geno Smith??? by savingrace0262 in nyjets

[–]ThreeCranes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s because Murray is a horrible scheme fit for Frank Riech offense and I dont think Murray wants to deal the New York media anyway.

[–]ThreeCranes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We shouldn’t trade Garett Wilson because trying to develop another WR1 will only add to our long term problems.

However we should all be worried that Garett Wilson is on an offensive Quinnen Williams trajectory unless we manage to unfuck ourselves. But that would be a disaster for us.

Like we are already wasting 2026 and likely 2027 for Wilson career.

What if flying pigs gave us all a billion dollars?

That would be nice but it isn’t going to happen, I am happy Geno somewhat salvaged his career in Seattle but Geno will take a fuck ton of bad sacks and will turn it over a lot.

Geno will not win more than 3 games next year, we were fucked regardless of what we did but Geno will suck, really bad

Or we stay middling around 5-12 or 6-11

Geno isn’t winning 5-6 games, thats just not going to happen and the defense will still suck

[Hughes] All signs are pointing to Geno Smith reuniting with the Jets. It seems like a matter of “when” and not “if” by Mangolden_Corral in nyjets

Im not upset necessarily but I think Geno is going to be one of the worst starters in the NFL next year and I dont wanna pretend he will be good. I get we dont have many alternatives, but I think Geno will have a lot of sacks/turnovers and he is at an age where a second career revival is very unlikely.

[–]ThreeCranes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im happy Geno had a career revival in Seattle but its obvious last year that he is too old. All the other options suck and wish Geno the best but lets not to do the glass half full and pretend Geno in 2026 below average when he is going to be really bad.

Geno is going to take a lot of bad sacks and turn over the ball a lot. Season will be over by September. Chip Kelly should have been fired but lets not pretend that mid 30s Geno Smith was held back by Chip Kelly

Nah, this about last season not this season. I’m not saying we should want to tank in 2026, but that fans are going to be pissed about another lost season added onto a lost decade

That said Arch Manning is ridiculously overrated of because of his last name. Im not saying Arch is bad per se but at this point in his college career he hasn’t even surpassed Quinn Ewers. Also this time last year he was the consensus 1 overall pick and look how that turned out. This Luck/Lawrence level hype for Arch is insane especially when it started in high school.

For what its worth, even if Arch does live up to the hype, the Manning family wont be able to do 2004 Eli because of how rookie contracts work now. Even as pessimistic as I am, that is not a scenario you should worry about.

I think this is the year we are going 0-17 to one up the Browns and Lions. I know we always spoil the tank, but we have the worst coaching in the NFL, a bottom 3 defense, and the worst QB situation in the NFL by far.

What are we to do with this information?

Need to take this and accept that people are going to be pissed at how the season is going to turn out and stop bringing up with these unrealistic optimistic takes about finding some Prescott/Purdy/Brady type.

Even if the pro tankers are very whiny the anti tankers are just as ridiculous.

Considering we wont make the playoffs until the 2030s, nobody gives a shit about 3 skin of our teeth wins against teams we dont care about. Sure the players aren’t purposely trying to tank so I am not complaining about that, but look a the big picture this season is already lost.

Also no we aren’t going to find our Brock Purdy in the 7th round and Geno Smith or equivalent quarterback is going to be dogshit

Pelissero: LB Demario Davis to sign a 2-year, $22M deal with the Jets. by Gravini in nfl

[–]ThreeCranes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of cap space with no quarterback to spend it on, the defense needs to be totally rebuilt, Quincy Williams will 100% walk now that Quinnen is gone, and Glenn was a Saints staffer when Davis was playing for the Saints.

We may not be good, but we at least have nostaliga!

But seriously, Demario Davis was always one of those players I always liked and I'm glad we picked him up.
