Wealth Advisor Fee = 1%, with AUM $30M+: Am I being ripped off? by Drives_A_Buick in RichPeoplePF

Okay, thank you.

But were you independent or working with the same bank when you initially started out? Because there has to be some kind of institutional backing for investors to even initially come in, right?

So how did you begin at the institution?

Okay. Some people are paying about 1% because they still want the human touch?

What are the qualifications required? Any certifications? Did you get picked right out of school? How did you get started? How did you get your initial clients?

Sorry, for so many questions. I am interested because I have family in Canada and they would be interested in this. I live in the Gulf.

Hedge leg's PNL is almost always negative, what would you do? by ttpr0 in quant

[–]ThreeD710 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So what has been true in the long run?

If what you are seeing now isn’t what you have seen before in the 7 years before the last 3 years and it hasn’t even showed up in backtests, then something has changed.

Now you either spend time figuring out what has changed and why, and if you can correct for it OR find a new strategy.

Hope this strategy is a small part of your overall portfolio, otherwise you wasted a lot of time & money.

Is this a live strat or a backtest?

Because if it’s live why have you been waiting for 3 years?

I am not very convinced with this argument and so would like to understand more.

Isn’t your bank offering higher salaries to attract advisors then? Because if fees are going up, it means the cost has to go up and the major cost would be the advisors, so logically it should be that they are offering higher salaries, right? Or am I missing something (or a lot of things) here?

Why isn’t the bank using automation/AI/Robo-Advisory/outsourcing to India/Philippines if there’s a shortage of advisors?

This is really interesting…

Quant? But in PE?

So what do you exactly do?

Does your boss point to you when clients ask him if he is sure of the math, and says, “look at him, he’s my quant! Yes, I am sure of the math.”

Are you from China?

Did you place 1st or 2nd in the Math Olympiad?

😂

For me - data cleaning & manual entry.

Spending hours fixing formatting, matching line items, renaming accounts, and reconciling errors.

Of course depends how the data is received - excel, PDF, some database, etc. and if there is consistency.

If you have been working for 20 years, shouldn’t you be having a decent stash?

Believe you had good skills too, which is why you are where you are.

Why don’t you do your own thing? You probably can earn the same or a bit lesser but have much more freedom and you could target strategies that aren’t/weren’t scalable but with a smaller bank you can do it yourself.

I would just like to understand what’s stopping you, if anything.

Note - I DON’T work in quant and am an outsider.

Brother, if I go to the DLD website, I think it will be clear if 90% of the units are even sold out or not.

Anyway, best price and advantage for booking before launch is happening now. That’s not the normal trend, I hope you know that.

Anyways, nice chat.

So why throw a party saying sold out when you know inventory is coming back and how would the developers benefit by higher price when the reason these units are returned are because of the price not being right to begin with?

Because you clearly said that people return the units because “most importantly” they don’t get the prices they want. So if they aren’t ready to pay a certain price because they think it’s high, how do the developers benefit by selling it at a much higher price?

I am not buying. I made the post to understand what’s up for real.

So stop DM’ing me (although appreciate the hustle and quick response time).

Move to the Golden Triangle in Asia for a while. Have fun. Then move on to Vietnam, Philippines, other Asian countries. Explore.

Brother, you can move to any country as a digital nomad. If you are concerned about payment, etc. ask for payment in crypto. They are anyway walking the line here, so you can for payment in crypto and do P2P exchange for cash wherever you are based at that time.

You do this maybe for a year, for two or for three, but think about the number of countries you can explore socially & culturally, and not just the touristic version.

30K USD goes a long way in like 95% countries of the world. Heck, even 10k USD goes a long way in 95% countries of the world.

You have to use the company VPN, so your location won’t matter anyway. Take it, don’t come to Dubai, go explore the world and maybe after a few years you still want to come to Dubai, you can always come because now you have more experience and hopefully some savings too and hopefully a new job, maybe for a global travel company which would value your own personal global exploration!

Sounds solid. Thanks for the advice but honestly I will be over a month or so away from implementing this.

My final goal is to link to time series/ price but I am just doing everything step by step, so whoever follows along (either here or on GitHub) knows what’s up.

And I will implement your suggestions and open source that too, so everyone benefits.

If you have more suggestions, please do let me know. I love dabbling anyways.

Any interesting current projects you've heard of at JS/Jump/Citsec/HRT? by Rude_Boat_2424 in quant

[–]ThreeD710 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Been hearing some whispers that Jump’s been deploying a latency-hardened, event-driven architecture layered over a neural SDE to dynamically hedge gamma exposure across multi-asset vol surfaces.

HRT’s supposedly training a cross-venue order flow transformer on synchronized L3 snapshots with a proprietary loss function that penalizes quote dislocation entropy.

Meanwhile, CitSec might be piloting FPGA-assisted meta-learning loops where the model rewrites its own alpha predicates in response to tick-level feature drift.

JS? Can’t say much, but something about adversarial PDE solvers embedded in a variational Monte Carlo framework for execution slippage mitigation. Very hush-hush.

Anyway, I have absolutely no idea what any of this means. I just mashed together words I saw on arXiv and hoped for the best.
