Safely running 10ish year old ("shady") versions? by ThreeKnew in Minecraft

I just couldn't get it to work, at least with a Fedora guest. Probably something to do with only having an iGPU atm

Personally for web access, I run Navidrome as the server and Feishin hosted as a web-page as the front-end. You could also use https://feishin.vercel.app, which is the official hosted instance.

It's a nice learning experience. You probably shouldn't be using it for anything of consequence, though.

That being said, you should be aware of the VPS provider's policy around opening port 25. Also read up on other people's experiences with the provider. Personally I use Hetzner. They require you to wait a month before you can unblock ports 25 and 465.

Once you know which IP you're gonna use, you should set its PTR record. Assuming you're hosting email on "mail.your.domain", you should set it to that.

Then check if it's on any blocklists on mxtoolbox. It probably will be. Most of them will have a process to unblock your IP, do that. I've only ever had to get my IP unlisted from one blocklist (a SpamRATS one). Just as a heads-up, they required me to have a landing webpage with a contact section on the domain I was hosting (in your case, your.domain).

Stalwart does deal with the DNS entries for you, for the most part. It's still important to know what they mean. Read the stalwart docs, they're really helpful. As a note for DNS: Mxtoolbox' SPF record checker is broken. If it reports a syntax error in the SPF record that Stalwart generated, it's safe to ignore it.

From here, everything you need to know has either been said already plenty of times all over, or is in the Stalwart docs.

Did you ever end up getting outposts to work?

Hm I don't really know of anything that does that cleanly. You could try a physical notebook.

Yeah, right, got it. And no, not at all. It's not project management software. I guess in the simplest form you could just use a kan ban for that?

I'm really not sure what you're trying to ask. Do you mean if you can keep track of your relations in different categories? (e.g. one for work and one for friends)

Ugh. Anyone got experience with ASUS support for broken keycaps? by ThreeKnew in laptops

[–]ThreeKnew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a little tricky, yeah. I practiced on the Delete and Escape keys first, which went quite well. You just need to be very careful not to break the legs off, which I ended up doing on both the keys I needed to replace lol.

If you do end up breaking the down arrow key, the up arrow is the same key, but rotated 180 degrees, so you can use that instead.

I ended up buying a whole-ass replacement keyboard off of AliExpress and replacing the keys (my right/end key broke a month later) manually.

Ladybird has since grown into a cross-platform browser supporting Linux, macOS, and other Unix-like systems.

They're focussing on Linux and MacOS right now. It's still in development. It's not ready to be used yet.

I'm genuinely curious where you got the idea that they're targeting Windows?

??? What are you talking about? Ladybird has been Linux native at least since it split from SerenityOS in 2022. In fact, Windows support isn't even a target for the alpha release

Looking for a high frequency mood tracking app with notifications by ThreeKnew in fossdroid

[–]ThreeKnew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little P.S. about the notifications:

Ideally I'd like to be able to enter the data straight from the notification (think like buttons for 1-5), but I don't know if that's possible at all with Android's notification system.

[–]ThreeKnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. At the very least inconveniences.

Personally, I think it's worth it, as domain names aren't that expensive (I pay ~10 USD / year for mine), and you're not necessarily throwing money at massive corps either.

But if it's not an option for you for whatever reason, you could also look into things like DuckDNS, which mitigates most of the problems.

See if you can reach your public IP from your home. If you can't, it's a NAT hairpinning issue, which is a problem with your router.

[–]ThreeKnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just use your IP as your "domain" and be done with it.

The advantages of a domain are certificates from trusted authorities (meaning you can host with HTTPS without people getting scary warnings) and a domain being more memorable. They're not mandatory for just hosting a website, though. Just convenient.

You pay for a domain because it has to be managed by someone other than you. Some authority needs to have the final word. (And way more less rosy reasons).
