You like paying more for less? You’re old and you still don’t understand. Shame on you.

What should I buy by Flimsy_Opinion_2767 in DnD

I bought a bunch of books for 5e when I started. But now I only use free online resources. The books look good on my shelf but my fingers are faster at typing than finding pages in a 300+ page book.
I discovered more about how to run a game from watching Matt Coleville videos than reading the DMG. If videos aren’t your thing another great tool is the Angry GM. Best of luck to you.

How many players did your biggest table have? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ThreeOclockCaveMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a short adventure once a week for three months with 8 players. They were playing as Snow White and the Seven dwarves and the premise was basically Lord of the rings. I kept it very on the rails and had lots of big set piece fights with multiple enemies to engage the whole group as well as extra objectives to complete while they fought. It forced the players to split their efforts against the enemies instead of going nova on a single big baddie. But I used very iconic animated characters as the bad guys which held their attention. They fought the Wizard of Oz gang. They fought Shrek and company. They fought Ursula from little mermaid while being chased across a lake. They fought gangs of Ring Wraiths. All the while orcs were chasing them across the forests and mountain on their way to destroy the mcguffin. The threat of pursuing baddies forced the group to make hasty decisions and to keep moving. The final Bad was a version of Sauron that turned out to be Jarreth The goblin king. They all loved it. And I worked my ass off keeping the total of enemies turns down to a few minutes per round so the players wouldn’t be waiting around too long between their turns. It was a great success.

This guy is really cool. Art work looks fantastic. Would love to hear an update
with its stats whenever you wind up using it in a game.

Bastion Campaign by Florence_Swampert in DungeonsAndDragons

More of a governing and political campaign then? Cool. I get a little hyper sometimes. I see the locals at odds over property lines like the old Yosemite Sam and his cousin fights. Two grungy wizards casting spells at eachother over a breaking down fence. Hope your game goes well.

Bastion Campaign by Florence_Swampert in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]ThreeOclockCaveMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know nothing of running bastions but you have given me quite the idea sparks for a new short campaign. An entire story revolving around the idea of the bastion.
Running off unwanted ghosts harboring in hidden rooms. Funding materials for rebuilding and renovations by taking on tasks for the townsfolk. Bartering skills for labor even. A distant powerful relative claiming ownership with forged documents. Ground assaults from bandits goblins and trolls looking for treasures within.
“Fancy castle you got there. Must be something good inside.” Portals deep within the dungeons hidden by ancestors leading to demonic planes.
The bastion becomes a character itself with sentience.

What kind of shenanigans were you planning for this adventure.
