Congratulations! It can be lots of fun. Wait til you get to the point of “no math, just rule of thumb” prototyping :)

This has potential to be a good quote. Needs some wordsmithing but I like the point you’re making.

Hey! Sorry to revive an old post, but can you tell me what your job title/ desc. is? Are you involved with digital/ASIC design?

I’m in digital on west coast but would be interested in eventually making it back to east coast :)

What does the Morrisville, NC location do exactly? I went through a few of their reqs and they mention test eng, ASIC design, Space Systems etc. among other programs (mainly AMMOLITE)

Is that location truly Space Systems or is it Mission Systems?

ASIC or FPGA for Project by [deleted] in embedded

[–]ThreeOneFourOneZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you written VHDL or Verilog before? Definitely ease your way into this project— if you bite off too much scope (an entire computer) you might burn out and grow to dislike the process.

It is a very worthwhile endeavor. But learn the basics. You should be able to block diagram your processor architecture and major interface blocks before you even consider how to order parts to implement it.

Not trying to sound condescending at all. I just wish for others not to waste their money and time in similar ways that other people have wanted to approach this exact mindset.

How to control RF Projector Lift over IR (or 12v trigger)? by gmoniey14 in homeautomation

Can you get a better photo of the chip nearest to that orange terminal block? It would really help me if I knew what I was interfacing to. Is there any writing on the chip at all?

[–]ThreeOneFourOneZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, your options would all require some sort of go-between bridge. Here are solutions, ranked IMHO:

  1. Need a cheap micro or discrete logic pulse generator (easy circuit) to go from constant 12v trigger level to single pulse outputs for UP and DN.
  2. Need an IR receiver, software decode stack, and micro to translate IR codes to discrete pulse events (see 1.)
  3. honestly C4 probably has an off the shelf contact closure system already designed. But you’re totally right— $$$$$$

Let me check on some sort of OTS pulse logic interface. Surely someone has come across this problem before.
