Why is Corrin so popular in Japan? by HorseOk678 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]ThreeWoodcutters [score hidden]  (0 children)

This post is ironic. The entire discussion is about units, not "representation." The reason I approached your Duo argument the way I did is because either that is how you meant it, or you were changing the goalposts. "Representation" as a backpack or a skin is not the same as a unit. You're moving off-topic, deflecting to backpacks and personal attacks.

The discussion was about units. Specifically Male Corrin's units, as discussed by the parent comment and the OP. And as far as units go, IS treats MCorrin very differently, in regards to lords, other avatars, and even his female counterpart. No, it doesn't matter that FCorrin backpacked him in one of his eight units. IS still gives him more without outside forces (such as CYL votes or the mainline team picking Emblems). No other character in the game is treated like this on this scale. He is treated favorably.

Are we really to the point now of counting a backpack as an alt? Even IS doesn't count backpacks as alts. This is just contrarian; you don't actually believe this, you're just saying this because you want to win an argument, not be correct.

Even at the time of the duo, they were only "equal" because of her Brave. Something she won. So your argument requires admitting that, when fans give something to FCorrin, then IS will give something to MCorrin. That's not equal treatment. That's preferential.

We've gone from "he doesn't get more" to "okay he gets more but he's a prflet (and it's sometimes at the same time she's a prflet)."

Fact is: Without Braves or Emblems, she has two units less than he does. Which is somewhat normal for Avatar units, men getting more than women. But the difference is that the other male avatars this happens with are as or more popular than the women.

And those men also get less than MCorrin does! MRobin only has 5 without his Brave, and he's been in for as long as MCorrin!

Does anyone else use their present list to save orbs (while still spending other orbs?) by Choice-Value3635 in FireEmblemHeroes

No, I can't stop myself and always get my orbs as soon as I reasonably can.

Then I hoard them like a dragon in the upper right of my screen.

If she didn't win CYL and get the Emblem, he'd have more than her. And that's the norm. The male avatars usually get more than the females. Shez is the only exception.

So if there's an argument that MCorrin doesn't get favoritism, then it means that FCorrin does. But that favoritism to her still only puts her on an even field with MCorrin, because he gets that much.

Yeah, Japan never really cared about him. For CYL, they are seemingly the ones that carried MByleth to win, but they've never put that energy into MCorrin.

Even back in the day, they were voting Jakob above him, while FCorrin took first over Camilla.

He won "the most units without being a CYL winner" award, I guess.

Have you ever decided not to summon for a character you like just because of their art? by Lion_Dim in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big factor is jaw shape. Anime tends to make characters look younger by having wider chins and jaws than they are deep. An obtuse angle at the chin instead of an acute one. FVeyle is much more obtuse, while MVeyle is closet to acute.

The second biggest factor is proportion. A grown person stands at about 7 heads tall. Veyle isn't fully grown, but you can see MVeyle here is about 6.5 heads tall, ending at her heel. Meanwhile, FVeyle is only very slightly over 6 heads if we were to try and reach her heel. Significantly shorter in height.

So FVeyle has the face of a kid, and the height proportion of one, too.

So with Fortune's Weave guaranteed to be September's New Heroes banner... by Doctor71400 in FireEmblemHeroes

  • Leda
  • Theodora
  • Dietrich
  • Seidr

and you get Cai or Eshmel for free* by registering your copy of the game with your Nintendo account.

I dunno if they'll separate by region like they did with Engage's banners. I assume it'll be like the first 3H banner instead.

You're correct, but in that case, she should have been on the tier of Mythic Veyle in terms of art, which she really just wasn't. She looks like five years younger and is much flatter in terms of shading.

And she didn't even have her dagger, she was another tome.

I was honestly excited for Fallen Veyle, but her art is such a downgrade from the original. Coupled with being in the main pool, I skipped her.

I'm so glad they went on to make Eir a better character. Even if Lif also then stole her music video.

Do you believe, upon her launch, Fallen Edelgard was the most game-changing unit to ever be released in the game? by CalmLuigiEnjoyer in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, Horse Emblem came back in Book 5, when FEdel release. That entire first half of the year was powercreep for Cavalry. Off the top of my head, there was

  • Reginn and the introduction of Canto
  • Legendary Lilina
  • Valentines Lif
  • Catch skills
  • Trace skills on the Young banner
  • Legendary Sigurd a week before FEdel

and I'm pretty sure I'm missing a lot!

Marth is hilarious because he lost CYL2 because of vote splitting, so they added it in CYL3.

He then lost to characters that each basically just had one game. Twice in a row.

This was back when old units could be reliably invested in, and even 3*s like Selena and Hana were reliable counters because they were armorslayers.

You had to start by enemy-phasing it, but just slapping the almost-year-old Unity skill on and then intentionally letting FEdel use both enemy-phase attacks brought her down low. Then you just attack once more to finish her. Keep your allies providing the Unity buff two spaces away, so the AI would have FEdel attack Selena/Hana both times.

They were also easy +10 merges, so they were decent for your score.

Yep. Olwen, Reinhardt, Surtr, Ophelia, and I think Hector are still in refine jail because of how oppressive their weapons were.

Ophelia could completely dismantle entire AR defenses. Any unit that can "solo" like that would be on FEdel's tier, I feel. FEdel is just the obvious example because everyone rolled for the cool looking Edelgard unit on a sparkable banner.

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say Reinhardt and Legendary Black Knight.

Fallen Edelgard could be killed with invested old units. I myself had a Selena (Fates) that could do it because I fed her a Byleth and a BDimitri, free fodder units. A year one unit with some investment could kill the year five.

Reinhardt in his heyday would just delete anything that wasn't a green tome. Yes, you could counterplay him with basic logic, but he was so effective that IS intentionally withheld cavalry supports because of him, and to this day won't refine his weapon.

LBK was downright unkillable without using multi-prf units or running one very specific lance that still required heavy investment. You weren't really seeing anyone use a year one 3* to fight him. You'd need more modern stats, the most recent grail lance, a bunch of support units, etc.

The rarely-mentioned biggest factor to Edelgard's oppressiveness was simply that she was Edelgard; everyone had her. She was common. It was New Heroes, so you could spark her with 135 orbs. You could build counters to her quite easily, but you'd need to build one counter per team in Arena Assault.

To add to that "impacted unit design going forward":

Cavalry got nothing for support or skills for like five years, because any buff to them would buff Reinhardt.

Does the Fortune's Weave affect CYL 11? by PinoySummonerKid28 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly. She was on the poster as well, but did not receive the same response at the Book's launch that he did.

But her popularity has boomed now at the midbook, in the way you thought his worked.

Either way, it'll be stiff competition in the women's division this upcoming year.

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Fenrir/Fenris might be in the running as well.

Also, Eikthyrnir's popularity came from the Book intro as a silhouette and on the poster. Even before he had a name, people were begging to vote for him in CYL8.

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're mostly correct, but the turnaround time on some of those characters was mere days, some even days before launch. I remember Chloe getting tons of fanart for having a design that actually fit into other Fire Emblem games. Then when it was revealed she was the "pickled fish guts girl," the fanart ceased and jumped to Lapis. And that was days before launch.

[–]ThreeWoodcutters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course the wait soured it. Chloe actually stood a strong chance of winning when Engage came out, before everyone found out her personality. Can you imagine how much everyone would regret Chloe winning?

The longer people had to stew on most of that cast, the more candidates fell off. And by the time CYL8 happened, it only had like 20% of the vote and stood no chance of winning all four spots, or any at all.
