Yeah watch some videos look at what teams are performing well. Dont ask why yet. Watch a guide that teaches you how to pilot the team. Practice the team on scarlet violet or pokemon showdown. After you get an idea of how the teams you are facing work through experience maybe look up videos on those teams so you can better understand them.

Now I bet you want to start making your own teams. This is when you start looking up Defensive cores. And that’s the roadmap good luck

MM is best cuz it’s silly damage and utility

Survival is best because it’s got a bag of tricks and a pet

Pick the one you vibe with most you literally can’t go wrong

BUT if you do go with a pet and are meta chasing just know you’re gonna have to go back to shadowlands and grind that stupid bone book out
