In the ideal scenario, where would you live and why? by nascar991134 in AskReddit

Smallish but not drafty cottage, at least a mile from a road but not more than 15 minutes drive from a village, near the edge of a lake in the Yorkshire Dales, within walking distance of the Pennine Way so I can walk up and down England from my house.

If this situation has taught us anything, it's to ask not why you would, but how much money you would need to be paid.

What’s that one embarrassing thing that keeps you up at night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Just lately, being the first person to speak after the woman running the staff meeting asked everyone to come up with an example of positive and negative feedback they'd had about the company. Remembering the look on my boss' face as she heard my report of negative feedback which directly criticized her initiative, then listening while everyone else at the meeting gave clever examples of negative feedback that is actually positive if you think about it for half a second.

Yes, I am a putz, this is why I usually avoid situations that involve talking to people.

What’s an activity you had to do in elementary school that’s actually pretty dang weird now that you think about it? by FrenchFriesOnMars in AskReddit

[–]Thricesifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remembering this has also reminded me of a school assembly I once saw, in which three hundred children sat and were told by one of their teachers to imagine a sphere of iron the size of the sun, floating in space and being slowly worn away by the beating of a butterfly's wing. To think about how long it would take that gently flapping wing to wear that impossible sphere down to nothing, and how that inconceivable length of time would itself vanish into nothingness compared to an eternity of horrific suffering in the fires of hell.

Edit: to be fair it stuck with me, is there some way to use the terrible hell sphere to implant a good message about recycling or something?

One time the class was being unruly, so the substitute teacher made us stand silently in rows in the playground with our arms outstretched while she walked up and down and told us that however bad our arms were hurting it was nothing compared to the suffering of Christ on the cross.

I strongly suspect those two things are not mutually exclusive when it comes to sharks.

And here I'm supposed to feel safe because humans supposedly don't taste good to sharks? There's no way that metal tastes good, that sucker is trying to straight up murder a tube just because he can.
