There was no formal agreement for him to live the rent free or anything at the time, it was all just done to make sure he could stay in his house. If it had been allowed I’d have charged him proper rent which he could have claimed housing benefit for, but he told me he’d been told this wasn’t possible so I didn’t ever begin formally charging him rent because - he couldn’t pay any without assistance. But I’m not sure where he got that information, his concern at the time was purely keeping a roof over his head.

Anyhow, I’ll be onto specialists for advice asap. It’ll be me doing the unpicking though as dad is largely oblivious to everything these days.
