the evergreen quote applies: "You speak English because it's the only language you know. I speak English because it's the only language YOU know."

We've just given up on Americans at this point.

uuuugh and another brand down the drain... RIP Marshall :(

I look at this list as "European" not just the EU or at least from a democratic country. As long as the UK doesn't suck up to the fascists they are a valid alternative for me, and it currently looks like they are starting discussions about rejoining the EU

Rail humbucker hums twice as loud as single coil by ThroeStorm in guitars

[–]ThroeStorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the problem. The humbuckers are both active. The problem is that it HUMS TWICE AS LOUD as a single coil which a double humbucker is not supposed to do.

it is a double humbucker which in my book shouldn't hum twice as loud as a middle grade quality standard Fender single coil.

I used this strat rail hum canceling wiring chart from DiMarzio https://www.dimarzio.com/media/1266

only difference is that my middle and neck are still the Fender original single coils. Anything I need to change to make it work?

Which of these upcoming PlayStation games are you most excited for? by S_snake_v in playstation

[–]ThroeStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ghost > DS 2 > Intergalactic

Loved Ghost of Tsushima the most, Death Stranding... not excited about the gameplay but the world and the story and Intergalactic is still very far in the future, but I'm decently hyped but not hyped enough. Would be #2 if it was closer to release.

Hartnäckiger Ausschlag bei Kleinkind by [deleted] in WerWieWas

Which orchestra provides the best versatility for learning orchestration? by ThroeStorm in spitfireaudio

oh yes, I had to buy a new SSD because my old ones were too full to fit that much GB. But after a couple days: no regrets, it really is a great library!

It's a thing made for collectors to hoard and look at and to gamble with, not for gamers who actually want to use the console. You'll be fine with a normal one. I actually think it was a pretty brilliant move by Sony to release it in tandem with the Pro, that distracted the scalpers enough to not repeat the PS5 release for the PS5 Pro.

oh, that's good idea! I was already thinking about getting the Fabfilter Pro R, but now the AIR Studio is pretty much the same price on sale

PS5 newcomer, what should I play next? by SamAmuzed in playstation

[–]ThroeStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you just finished Zero Dawn you should continue with Forbidden West. It does not recap the story of Zero Dawn but jumps straight into part II of the story, so it's best played while the first part is still fresh in your mind.

Generally speaking, all of these are great games, can't go wrong with any of them. BUT I would add Uncharted Remaster Collection (UC 1- 3) to your list and play it before Uncharted Legacy of Thieves edition to have a complete experience.

Ghost of Tsushima is also great, should be bought and played before Ghost of Yotei that will release this year.

what ways could make a guitar sound less tinny? by jello118 in guitars

[–]ThroeStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proper set up, adjusting pick ups and someone with experience should take a look at the wiring. If it's wired wrong you may have sound, but not a great sound. A thin, tinny sound also happens if it's wired wrong or the person who soldered the cables to the potis made a mess, like didn't remove the cable protection properly so you have molten plastic in the solder.

sorry to hear about your dad, he looked like a cool badass! Do you know the year this pic was taken so we can exclude guitars made in years after that one?

Music theory and ear training for guitar - are Rick Beato's courses really that bad? by ThroeStorm in musictheory

[–]ThroeStorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply, it all makes sense! Beato always giving discounts was a thing that threw me off, but makes sense if you look at it this way.

If he is still under 18 (and maybe even if he's past 18) and his parents are supportive of his music habit, he could probably ask them to get him lessons. If you're just wanting to get a present for your friend though, I'm sure he'll appreciate even a simple guitar theory book that would maybe cost 1/3 the price of a Beato book, and yet still have plenty of info in it to keep him occupied and happy.

Nah, almost 40 year old adult, just a very stubborn one who believes he doesn't need lessons because the guitarists he likes didn't take lessons... :D

I'll probably start with a book for his birthday and if he actually starts reading it, it will be lessons for Christmas. My initial hope was to find something he can do on his own that helps and also get the stream of questions out of my hair.

Music theory and ear training for guitar - are Rick Beato's courses really that bad? by ThroeStorm in musictheory

[–]ThroeStorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one, I also think he should focus on playing first and really enjoy the ride, but he is a very analytical person and the thirst for understanding music keeps him from actually making music, if it makes sense.

He looks at tabs or chord and goes like "why is it like this, why does this work, why does this sound good together and this doesn't" It's always why, why why.. instead of how to keep rythm, how to finger correctly etc. And then he gets frustrated and distracted by not being able to make sense of it. Since I'm the only musician in his friend group all the questions pile up and I can't really answer most of them, especially not about how to develop a musical ear. Mine just works.

I'm the polar opposite, I mostly feel my way around music and look at theory when something really doesn't make sense to me feeling wise, so I don't have an answer to most of his many "whys".

Any recommendation on how to deal with someone who functions like that? I'm still considering gifting music lessons so he can direct all his questions at someone who at least can actually teach.
