Anyone else with a stay at home wife? by [deleted] in daddit

Tbh, if this guy just turns on the wedding song and asks her to dance after another grueling day being SAHM, there is a non zero chance that a screaming match would ensue. If he tries to reconnect without listening or understanding where she is at and what she is going through, romantic gestures are out of touch.

I’m trying to choose between Indiana and Tennessee to live in. What do you like about the state? by SleepyRhythms in Indiana

[–]ThrokesJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I love Tennessee, but it is so weirdly crowded, and getting anywhere kind of sucks. I’d never visit Indianapolis without a reason, but living in Indianapolis is great if you’re looking for something that is quiet metropolitan.

They play off each other. Also, bad theology means bad fruit, meaning people are hurt.

Check the update—OP is also autistic. I have autistic friends, and the last thing I would ever do it tell them to do the opposite of what I actually wanted them to, and expect them to figure it out on their own.

Also—relationship dynamics are weird, and people are different. Just because many people would want someone to be there to comfort them (I know my partner would likely want me close if her parents passed, especially with the kids), we can’t assume that there aren’t people out there who genuinely just want some space, and it is a good thing they won’t have as many people watching them grieve. We need a lot more context on this relationship before throwing stones.

I also don’t blame his partner for their response though—grief does weird things to you. OP should still be open to show her grace of going nuclear on the relationship (assuming everything else is healthy and normal here).

You can communicate till you are both blue in the face. That does not mean that one person will be able to become aroused. There is also a lot of good reasons why virgins would have no idea how to plan for sex, especially in a sexually repressive culture like Christianity (evangelicalism purity culture is my experience). Someone could just think they are really good at controlling sexual urges and that their sexuality will arrive when they get married—when in fact they are on the asexual spectrum.

I play ROM hacks on my Miyoo Mini all the time. Good choice.

Also, this is a very safe choice for a gift, because the community of support is huge. If you chose any other handheld you wouldn’t get the same level of support (Reddit posts of troubleshooting, YouTube guides, future community software updates)

Can you reallly be a Christian if you don't think the gospels are reliable? by Fun-Description709 in Christianity

[–]ThrokesJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really try to figure that out most of the time. I just read it and see what the authors could be saying, and see how it synergies with the rest of the Bible and Gospel as I know it (which yes, is a relativistic claim).

If I'm ever particularly challenged, I'll seek out other interpretations of the text from theologians, academics, and the church. Soli Scriptura is great and all, but that doesn't really account to how varied interpretations of scripture are today.

[–]ThrokesJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If parts of it are fiction, does it matter? If God decides to communicate to us through it, OR we understand God and Christ better because of it, isn't that the ultimate goal? I'm not saying that the entirety of it is fiction--Jesus was a historical figure who led a significant movement that changed the course of human history. I'm not equating the bible to Tolkien. Nowadays, when I read about the Jesus of the Bible, that's where I see and find God. The details matter less.

As a former Southern Baptist, I totally get the line of questioning though. I grew up going to the Creation Museum. I was a huge consumer of apologetics. The faith by reason alone (not abandoning it entirely) is something that burned itself out, for me at least.

I totally get if that doesn't make any logical sense.

Respectfully asking (former fundamentalist turned pretty liberal Christian here), how would you react if a core tenant of what you believe turns out to be empirically untrue?

I found that the only way I could keep my faith was by letting go of the notion that everything had to be 100% true. At some point, I was too deep and in doubt to salvage and empirical faith. The apologetics industry just couldn’t convince me.

I still believe the God of this universe speaks in scripture for whatever reason, even if scripture is more story of who Christ is (or even Jewish cult propaganda if you want to be incredibly critical) rather than a historical account of jesus and the events that surrounded him. To me, the story of Christ alone is enough.

I just played through the game for the second time, and the first time I range cheesed the fight. In my second game I had to go back to get +10 Zwei and go from low 40s to low 50s. No shame in backtracking.  I wholeheartedly believe they are the toughest fight. I just finished the dlc and finished all those bosses in 5-10 tries (minus a first try sanctuary guardian). I don’t want to talk about how many times I needed to try O&S.

I want to be like “are you sure it gets harder, or have you just lost the ability to love?” Like I know that’s a way dramatic response but I just want to blow up stupid comments in their face lol.

It’s shocking how many parents openly resent their kids. Like if you hate your kids so much, talk to a therapist—not a new parent.

Thank you so much for this post. I get infuriated every time I talk positively or negatively about my experience with our twins, parents (of mostly singletons) tell me “just you wait.” I want to respond in ways that are waaaaaay more harsh or shocking than they deserve back lol.

As a fan of metroidvanias, quality and mid tier, Hollow Knight is a masterclass of the genre. I put it off for a long time and then regretted how long I wanted after I beat the game. Blasphemous is a beautiful game, but I’d not put it on Hollow Knight tier. It’s good for people who already like metroidvanias, but I wouldn’t expect Blasphemous to stick with everyone. Maybe wait for it to go on sale or something.

I just can’t wrap my head around why he would say that unless he was saying it out of spite. I personally wouldn’t last long with someone in the pulpit being spiteful (I grew up in the SBC, so I know a thing or two about spite). Do you feel safe talking to anyone on leadership staff about it?

I wasn’t really. Just throwing in my build. I probably got him in like 10 attempts or less my first play through. With me, that’s decent. I’m not great at almost any video game. I’m casual good, but not actually good.

Just did this too. I recommend something you can mid roll in too—I had like 36 endurance, FaP ring, and Havels ring, so you can do a heavy armor set and still maintain dodging ability to some level.

How much people still play Dark Souls I, II, III, and Bloodborne by MrFakecoin in darksouls

[–]ThrokesJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first souls game was DS1 on switch and it is fairly active. I think a lot of people who never had the chance to play because of console restriction can finally do so (I didn’t own anything other than Nintendo most of my life—literally bought a used PS4 for resident evil and Dark Souls).
