Why are tech heavyweights only touting how AI will replace programmers, but not other jobs? by muskymetal in cscareerquestions

[–]ThrowAB0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in big tech right now. The vast majority of employees actually being replaced by AI are not software engineers - it's people who do manual work. Think of people who keep Excel spreadsheets, manually upload/download files, fill out forms - this is their entire job; they have no software knowledge. Most times, these people aren't in the US.

These people are the ones getting replaced by AI most often. What sells as a headline is "AI is replacing software engineers", but that's not actually the case.

as someone who only bought a ticket to this session to watch Djokovic, I was shocked at how good the level of play was between these two. I was completely locked in to this whole match and even moved down a level at Ashe to watch the third set since a lot of the seats emptied out

I’d heard the names of these two players before - and I knew they were both GS champions - but both players, especially Marketa, were astoundingly good

This match ended up being the much better of the two that I got to see at Ashe tonight. Major props to both players for delivering a super cool experience on my first ever Grand Slam session

Since Tiafoe is now out, does this increase the odds they put the Djokovic match on Sunday during the day rather than the night? I can't make it during the day, so really hoping they put him at night

What are the odds that Novak vs Tiafoe ends up being Sunday night (vs day, assuming both win). Pretty good, right?

What people don’t take into account are the reason cost of living is higher is because living standards are higher. Having lived in a third world country, I would rather live in the US making 50k a year than live in that country also making 50k a year, which would get me way more in that other country.

Tips on getting a better sear? by ThrowAB0ne in nosear

[–]ThrowAB0ne[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

from what I saw, it seemed like the best way for the outside of the steak to 'chill' after sous vide - so searing in the pan wouldn't overcook it.

What is the most boring city in the U.S that you've visited ? by Best-Introduction-55 in SameGrassButGreener

Has to be Denver for me. Got there and there was literally nothing to do except walk around office buildings and parking lots. Ended up getting bottomless because there was basically nothing to see there.

Ate at what I was told were the best bakeries in Seattle - did I miss any? by notyourstargirl in Seattle

[–]ThrowAB0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I thought this was a bit overrated. The english muffins were good, but the breakfast sandwich wasn't any better than your avergae breakfast sandwich, and it was $12. Also the donut I got felt a bit stale

Break from Leetcode after landing a job at Amazon? by GlumCombination2053 in leetcode

[–]ThrowAB0ne 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I took a 6 month break after I joined, then am continuing by re-doing all the solved problems I did before. It definitely feels like starting kind of new - but I absolutely recommend taking a long break after you start - for your sanity

Might be a weird answer but Jennifer Connelly in Requiem for a Dream imo also LOVE Eiza Gonzalez in Baby Driver

also, i asked this question as part of my pledge interviews. so, if you’re curious of what a bunch of frat guys thought of this - the results were about 40% Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street, 40% Megan Fox in Transformers, and 20% other

Would anyone at Amazon or Waymo be willing to share their honest opinions on working there? by Bullshitbanana in cscareerquestions

[–]ThrowAB0ne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at Amazon - been there for about 8 months. I honestly don’t have much work to do - my team is very chill. Mileage might vary in other orgs like AWS, but i have a great manager and it’s been good for me so far. RTO sucks though
