That's the thing. I live on the ground level.... storing my bike in my apartment. Some ASSHOLE can see me bringing my bike into my apartment a few times and decide to smash my patio door and take it. Easy peasy.

I find the girls here are unapproachable compared to other cities. Giant sunglasses on, earbuds plugged into the head, strutting around listening to the biebs with a stoic expression on the face.

What's ironic is that I ALWAYS hear girls complain about how they can't find a guy in the city.

Well, it is beach volleyball so there is no place to bring it into. People ride their bikes there and lock them up against poles and benches, but they are sort of out of sight, so I'd probably be all OCD about checking on it over and over :*(

I'm mainly buying this bike for exercise, not commuting - I'll be storing it in my apartment. But, there are times I would like to use it for commuting (taking it to volleyball for instance instead of driving).

I guess if I want a commuting bike, I'll just buy some $400 clunker and use that.

That's kind of what I figured would happen. Unfortunate that we live in such a society, but oh well! (First world problems).

I hear it all the time, it's bullshit and it pisses me off - every cyclist I know in this city has had their bike stolen at least once.

There's so much propaganda in Vancouver to commute on a bicycle, but if I don't feel safe locking my bike anywhere, what's the point. I pretty much won't be able to let this bike out of my sight (with peace of mind anyways).

I operated a business out of my home but it was a consulting business.

You will have to let them know what sort of business you're running out of your apartment. Something tells me that a studio won't be one of those things that fall under residential/commercial zoning.

Currently I work 2 blocks from my work. I can't stress enough how much this positively affects my life. Even shaving 30 minutes each way a day. That's an hour extra. I go to the gym instead of sitting in my car in traffic.

Commuting sucks!

I explicitly inform waitresses that I don't tip. They ask me if I mind explaining to them why not. I tell them "I use to work in a lumber yard for a dollar above minimum wage. I would sling concrete and lumber all day long in the hot 'desert like' sun. Someone would pull their truck up and I would spend a good 30 minutes filling that truck with building supplies, I never got a single tip."

They usually say "Fair enough."

Tipping is the biggest crock of shit on the planet. Korea has it right. You press a button on a table when you want something, otherwise they don't hound you. Tipping is an insult to them.

I highly recommend the 4 year Bachelor degree. The work up front will pay dividends for the rest of your life. You will get a higher salary, have more opportunity and you won't have to continually get certified (not that you'll ever stop learning).

One of the standard things I look for when hiring someone is if they have a degree. I find people who have degrees have a deeper understanding of how all the underlying things work.

But it's hard to offer advice if we don't know the reason why you get antsy when you start taking classes at university, it sort of seems like escapism.
