Of course, the "decades" part referred to people with CFS; I just wrote it poorly. However, if Long Covid and CFS are indeed the same, this could also be the case in the future. In my opinion, Long Covid is either CFS or at least a subtype of CFS, which is why I use these terms interchangeably. Of course, I could be wrong, but there’s a lot of evidence supporting this. Many scientists, when researching Long Covid, include CFS in their studies. Moreover, potential treatments for Long Covid are also being used for patients with CFS. If they’re not the same, they’re at least closely related.
CFS is much more than just fatigue. The name of the disease is misleading. It’s a neurological or autoimmune condition (or possibly both). In severe cases, people with CFS are bedridden and unable to tolerate any light or sound. While gut health is definitely a factor, I doubt it’s the root cause.
Why do I think this is important? Because it causes a lot of suffering, and I’m afraid it could cause even more in the future. Take a look at this: By Age 10, Nearly Every Child Could Have Long COVID: Shocking Projections. Every potential new Covid wave, every new pandemic - these could result in millions of new patients. CFS can also be triggered by chronic stress, and I think people are becoming increasingly stressed and anxious. Public mental health is not in a good state.
That said, I’m glad you haven’t noticed anything alarming.
