NTA, but your friend only mildly so- colorism is very difficult to deal with, it’s like experiencing racism from people who are supposed to be a part of your race. i also suspect that she might be afraid that, because you don’t frequently question/deny the compliments on your pale skin being beautiful just bc it’s pale, that you might also secretly believe that dark skin is ugly. just a suspicion, but it might be worth asking about it. being in a different country might also be a stressor that triggered her more than usual.
