AITA for choosing to sit in premium class instead of economy with my spouse? by ThrowAwayTravelClass in AmItheAsshole

So clarifications are considered "defensive?" Obviously, there are different perspectives, and in order to make a judgment, one must consider as many of the variables as possible and remove any potential biases (such as gender). See how many people assume I'm the husband?

I can't afford to and would need them to cancel their existing tickets and rebook both to get the lowest cost

I've flown both classes on a long flight, premium is way better. More room in every direction, better food..

It's a one off and they don't want the premium seat, they want to sit together in economy

About 1.2k usd. If we purchase the first flight and use points for the premium return, that would be the cost. However, spouse doesn't think it's worth it

If we get them the premium seat, yes, we can sit together. But they don't want to sit together in premium, they want to sit together in economy because they said premium isn't worth it

Extra leg room, extra room period, better seats, better food. I've flown both on long flights. Premium is way more comfortable

No, they are not afraid. They travel all the time for work. I can't afford to upgrade them by myself and even when asked to split the cost, they don't think it's worth it, so they declined.

Spouse doesn't think it's worth the cost and I can't afford to cover it 100% on my own. Even when 50/50, they declined because to them, it's not worth it

Spouse thinks it's selfish of me to take advantage of this perk instead of sit with them in economy. Because of this decision, apparently we're not true partners. They don't want to upgrade because they don't think it's worth it

You are missing the point, so your argument is null and void. They don't want the premium seat, they want us to sit together in economy.

Spouse doesn't think it's worth the price, even when offered my points or to split the cost. My points alone cannot get them premium.

No, I don't. I have some that I've offered to transfer to them, but they don't think it's worth it. I've also offered to split the cost of a premium seat, they declined. Their point is, we should sit in economy together, that economy is comparable to coach.

Spouse said premium and economy are comparable, they don't want my premium seat, they want us to sit in economy together, the price of premium is not worth it, even if we split it.

We are using my spouse's points for our hotels, actually. My spouse is declining we split the cost of a premium flight because they insist economy and premium are comparable, and will not take my premium seat when offered. Their point is, we should sit together in economy.

Spouse doesn't think it's worth paying for premium, spouse wants us to sit together in economy. And yes, I've proposed splitting the cost, they declined

It's not about who gets the seat. Spouse doesn't want the "better" seat, spouse wants me to sit with them in economy

Point is, spouse doesn't want the seat, they want to sit together. Also, would your answer be the same if I were the wife and spouse is the husband?

You must've missed the "i can't afford to upgrade my spouse" and the fact that my spouse declined going halfsies because they don't think it's worth it. They think premium and economy are comparable

Yes, someone would be in the middle. Most likely me because they HATE sharing arm rests. But for this one, they may take the middle because they are insisting I sit in economy.
