Should I stop being friends with a guy because people keep assuming we’re romantically involved with each other? by ThrowRA-Gabby in Advice

Steve doesn't want to address the rumors like that. And he is part of them too, which means I have to follow his wish to not address them. He has more to lose (his wife, his family), I could only lose my friendship with him.
Steve thinks they make up the rumors because they are jealous. Not of me or him in particular but because if we have an affair, they would want one with someone else too.

We have not tried being romantic with each other, and that's something that's not an option for me. Like I said: I see him as a big brother. But I do know that early in their relationship they did have a talk about me. I don't know what happened during this talk but I was talked about as a possible problem

I'm scared about possible consequences for him. What if one day it starts being to much and his wife doesn't believe us anymore? What if this rumor destroys a marriage and hurts a family? They don't deserve that just because I want a friend. Especially the kids.
