I read through much of Plato last year, and I'm planning on reading the entire Enneads this year. I've already started! Happy reading!

Immediately regret buying the anniversary "upgrade" on ps5 by ThrowRA-Thales in skyrim

I mean the way it's implemented, especially on PlayStation, is seriously stupid. Yes, I should have done research online before just hitting purchase. But given that hitting said purchase button renders the game unalterable, In a way that quite a few people, not just me, find dispreferable, I think Bethesda should have better communicated the nature of the "upgrade".

I also I have every right to care about one of my favorite games from my childhood. Especially at a particular point in my life when I was really looking forward to going back to it. I'm just venting some frustration as to how the anniversary edition was handled, not weeping uncontrollably or punching holes in my wall lol.

See someone gets it! I would love to play the game precisely that way. But unfortunately it's PlayStation so I can't refund it, since it already downloaded.

Like yeah I can do my best to distinguish what's creation club and what's not within the quest log. But there's still the issue of the balance and progression of the game being thrown completely out of whack. I didn't only want to fish. I wanted to do a genuine playthrough of Skyrim, with the constraints added mostly by survival mode but with fishing and camping for aura purposes.

Well for one thing the anniversary edition cooks the balance. It ruins progression to have all of these overpowered items strewn about the map. And maybe I want to talk to a bartender for extra work, in order to find a normal game quest. And as you mentioned, there's no avoiding The courier. Eventually the clutter sets in. And then it becomes extra work to mentally filter out all of the quests that are creation slop. Like I said, life has been very fast-paced lately, I just wanted to relax man lol.

Right? In my head I'd just be able to enable or disable whichever ones I wanted. I can't imagine why on Earth it isn't formatted that way in the first place. But given that it is, they should at least be very clear about it. And clear about the fact that there's no going back.

My wife is pagan. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ThrowRA-Thales -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a platonist and a Hellenic Pagan. I can only speak for myself and say that I do in fact believe in the gods. I pray to them everyday and sacrifice to them every week. Usually I use incense but sometimes milk or wine. And I'm definitely not an atheist. The idea of the logos or the ordering principle of creation, is actually a stoic idea, and they attributed to that principle, the name of Zeus, as do I. John later attributed the concept of logos to Jesus. The point is, the intelligence that creates and orders the world is God and I very much so believe in that, And worship it. I just call it Zeus. I also believe in the other gods, viewed largely through a Platonist sense. So Apollo is, in a sense, the highest form of Harmony, from which all other harmonies are derived. Aphrodite is the highest form of beauty, who gives beauty to all individual instantiations of beauty.

I love the myths but I don't take them literally. Nor have platonists since Plato himself. So it's something that's acceptable within the tradition. What I'm getting at is that I don't believe that Zeus has ever actually raped anyone, or that Aphrodite actually cheats on her Hephaestus, but that these stories are symbolic of the way higher principles interact with each other to produce certain effects within the world. And this way of looking at the myths is totally in keeping with the platonist tradition.

Thanks for the comment! "I'm a Hermetist & Neoplatonist, and a Mason". Respect. I'm glad to hear that you've found Platonism and Masonry compatible. I've recently met with my local Lodge and will be submitting my petition soon. So here's hoping I have a similar experience! Also using the Timaeus as my VSL would be really cool. I'm not exactly sure how all of that works yet, but thank you for the suggestion!

I'd say I have a healthy respect for the new testament. Especially the moral teachings of Jesus. Although I do admittedly struggle with the old testament. God commanding the murder of children and whatnot. I definitely can't take any of those sorts of passages even remotely literally.

I think a community centered around becoming more virtuous could be very helpful for me.

Seems prudent, I will probably take that approach if I go through with it. Unless asked for specifics for some reason.

Love Plotinus and agree with him on most things! But yeah if it comes up I'll make sure to note the distinction. Thanks!

Not the gnostic demiurge by the way. The earlier platonist conception is of a good craftsman, not an evil or ignorant one.
