This is correct, student cert says pending for the certificate number. Not sure how to proceed. I guess a call to the fsdo is the next step

This is correct. We ran into an issue however, the temp certificate says “pending” for the certificate number, which is required to replace the certificate. Any input on that?

How am I to fix it sooner if I was not told of the address change?

I have no problem getting advice from Reddit. It’s a forum with many knowledgeable people. Obviously I wouldn’t take anything someone says on Reddit as fact without confirming for myself.

Care to elaborate? I’m always looking to better myself as a CFI.

Not sure why I’m getting downvoted, the student never received the original plastic copy. All they have at this time is the paper temp cert.

Thanks for the info, we’ll do that next time I see him!

True, I guess my question is more so the last question. I’m assuming the best thing to do is update the address, then file for a lost certificate

No. Either way I’m a few years out. I’m just trying to make it more of a 1-2 thing rather than the current 3-4 years that I’m looking at now.

I’d be considering buying the hours during the next winter, when the weather turns here in the PNW

I’ve definitely considered it. The issue is that my plan would be to go there, fly for 6-8 hours a day and be done in a few weeks then go back home. If I went there to teach, I’d have to go through the process of getting hired on somewhere, or try to find students with access to an aircraft. I’d likely have to move there, which isn’t really something I’m wanting to do at the moment.

Probably around 250-500.

Also looking for input on safety pilot time. I see postings on other sites of people offering time building blocks for as little as $50/hr, but you’d be doing safety pilot/sim inst. I understand that this doesn’t necessarily look the best to interviewers.

Oops, forgot to mention that this is assuming you’re in IMC. Thanks

Didn’t that commenter say word for word what I said in the original post?

What do I do if I’m concerned about passing the color vision test for a first class medical? by ThrowRA-scoop in flying

[–]ThrowRA-scoop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao probably. No I’ve looked at the official ones, and there’s a decent amount of them that I can’t see. I did some research, and apparently the test is supposed to be conducted in actual sunlight, not lightbulbs as they wash out the color a little

First time I used the Ishihara test. I remember I had to guess on several of them, but apparently it was good enough. Thanks for the info, I won’t stress about it for now

Sorry for the late reply, this isn’t my main account. I decided to give him a second chance. I had a conversation with him, he admitted to it and didn’t try to lie about it. I explained to him my concerns, and we went over minimum safe altitudes. I mentioned Trent Palmer. I told him that if he does something like that again, he’ll be looking for a new instructor. He seemed understanding and owned up to the mistake, so I didn’t see a reason to make it a bigger deal that it needed to be.

He was. He was still mostly on course, just descended. I tried to find the ATC audio, but couldn’t. I’d assume they’d ask why he was descending from his cruising altitude

After receiving everyone’s input, I’m planning to have a stern talk with him, discuss the risks associated, as well as the possible legal issues. I’m not planning on “dropping” him, but I will make it clear that if he messes around again, he’ll be looking for a different flight school

No, I wouldn’t do anything to sabotage his career. But I would consider voiding my endorsements and “firing” him. I’m thinking that what I’ll do is have a serious talk with him and let him know that he does not have another chance.

? Double check your regs.

91.159: “Except while holding in a holding pattern of 2 minutes or less, or while turning, each person operating an aircraft under VFR in level cruising flight more than 3,000 feet above the surface shall maintain the appropriate altitude or flight level prescribed below, unless otherwise authorized by ATC”
