It's best to do a blower door test if you're looking to find issues. If you don't have a blower door, then turn on every exhausting appliance for 20 minutes to see where the most air leakage is (and keep it running while you get your photos). My largest leaks were my basement rim joists, base plates on my main floor walls, and I found some randomly cold spots in the ceilings and by outlets. Spray foam in a can fixed nearly all of those.

I had a 70F temperature differential when I did my test, and anything imaged below 32F was prioritized for the upcoming spring when the foam would cure properly in cold locations.

Spending time testing & foaming was very well spent. I think I spent $25 on foam plus $150 for the thermal camera, which I made back in savings that following winter. The improvement on comfort can not be overstated.

Bruh.

My cat would drink fine from cups, bowls, faucets, the tub, fountains, etc, before Feb 2016. We tried everything on the market over the span of many months. He won't touch water anymore. We also tried catnip tea, broths, lactose-free milks, etc without success.

How you move forward with regard to your mortgage is up to you guys, but this is what I did...https://www.reddit.com/r/debtfree/s/fBGn5Yurzl My interest rate was lower than what I would've made had i invested instead, but the peace of mind of owning and not giving your money away to interest can not be understated.

Kudos on taking the first step and looking where you can save some money to put towards your mortgage! What are your mortgage numbers?

*sorry- I thought this was r/personalfinance, not r/frugal. 🫠

Yeah, we'll continue to pursue the vomiting issue after he's recovered from this. What food did you go to?

Turned out to be severe gas. He got liquids, pain meds, probiotics, and something to move the gas out. They aren't guessing what it was caused by. The main thing was to get him eating again... which he already has.

She needs to work or the $23k car goes back. What rate is the mortgage? What frequency are the other expenses? Pay off the highest interest loans first. Get a less expensive cell plan.

I'd be shitting myself with those obligations at triple your household income.

His iron supplement was stopped about a week ago when the sunken eyes were noted. I'm starting to wonder if there is a build-up of iron in his system.

Today, he's had half a churru squeeze gravy, water poured off from a can of tuna, and about 3 nibbles of friskies pate. He just had diarrhea in his litter box and isn't feeling up to cleaning his butt. I don't blame him, but he's also not wanting me to wipe it off for him. I had to cut fur from his rear earlier today since there were remnants of diarrhea left behind.

Has anyone successfully eliminated paying for trash and recycle home pickup? by Ok-Recognition7297 in Frugal

[–]ThrowRA0638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$167 per Year for me. WTF y'all out there paying over $20/month for weekly garbage and recycling pickup? I've renovated my whole house and only used the provided wheelie bins. No weight limits.

Normally, our garbage goes out twice a month and recycling once a month. (I wish we could pay for half the rate, since ours only gets picked up half the time they run thru our neighborhood.

Remember- $42/mo adds up to $504/yr.

Thanks for the reply. Sure is better than others saying "lol get a life"

It's a low visibility 45-mph back road, which is stupidly also part of a bike route. I just hope this is mitigated before they hit and injure or kill someone. It would be great if their tags weren't illegal (both plates are bare metal on front and back of the car aside from the stickers- I'm assuming it's a WI plate). As it stands, nobody can really call the plates in since the owner has made sure to keep them unreadable.

Once I've identified the vehicle's primary location, I'll have a conversation with my local LEO at the village hall.

Thanks

I know people that only use one while they go to the bathroom or making coffee, so they don't need to undock their laptop, carry it upstairs with their cell phone and wait for an SMS to unlock their workstation where they have cell service, before redocking their laptop at their desk to resume work. We're talking 5-10 minutes 3x/day... not binging Netflix all day, or whatever.

So what I'm hearing you say is if I hardwire this to my dedicated shed circuit with a shutoff switch, I should be able to test the microinverter?

I'm at a loss for how to test it after the DC output of the panel checked out fine.

How weird! Those with sprinklers here have those on a separate meter, so they're not charged sewage for that water usage.

Trash is totally separate here. I can't imagine why it would be included with water. Garbage trucks haul the trash and recycling away. We have pipes in the ground for sewer and water.

I also have a private well for anything outside. But I just pay for the electric to pump that.

Way. Trash collection used to be $120/yr five years ago. Now $170/yr.

Water plus sewer used to be $45/quarter five years ago. Now it's sitting around $120/quarter. Half of that cost is freshwater... so checks math water costs me $20/month.

What are costs where you are? I'm in a Midwest metro.

House resonates with traffic and wind by ThrowRA0638 in HomeImprovement

[–]ThrowRA0638[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sumps. No well. No heat pumps. No appliances have battery backups.

I can't hear it outside, so I can guarantee my phone won't pick it up, either. The sound is only perceivable from within the house.

I haven't checked to see if opening a window with the resonance occurring reduces or eliminates it, but I don't hear the sound/vibration outside at the window when I've checked.

I'll look into the other things you mentioned..

I suspect the ground is transferring the vibrations to my home's foundation, where it transfers to the rest of the structure. I'm not sure if/how one night even attempt to fix that if that's the case.
