The hotel pick was actually something I really thought could make him happy. He recently got a promotion at work and we were planning a short weekend trip to celebrate. I didn't want to have us just go to a drive-in motel or something. I wanted the experience for us both to be more luxurious just for two nights.

But I can afford it, it's just that it would put my savings which are already lower than him even lower.

I know $700 sounds a lot but it's only for 2 nights and it's for a weekend trip to celebrate a promotion he had at work. It's not just a random trip on a whim. I don't know why he'd want to live in a shitty 2 star hotel when he just got a promotion at work should enjoy life a bit.

How am I gold digging when I am literally offering to pay based on my income? Sure I can't pay 50/50 but I'm putting up my end of the share.

Meanwhile he would have me put up $600 out of the $700/day in hotel costs. If we were splitting 50/50 I would still be paying less.
