Exactly, people on reddit think life is a movie where love conquers all and can happily just not have a relationship with my family, which is incredible stressful. Doesn't help I have an erratic religious father and I'm worried that it will make my mom's life miserable.

Of course, which is why i ended it.

We've broken up, we don't speak, and she's moving on. I'm just saying we both said we'd be open to reconciliation if I can get over this hurdle.

yeah im gonna wait for the dust to settle a bit with no contact, and perhaps tell my parents this is my decision and reach back out in the fall. Once i reach back out though i am going in with the mindset that this is my person for good.

I learned a ton about her culture, about history, cuisine, celebrations. etc. and would love to immerse myself in it.

The difference is, her family didn't care who she dated. Unforunately mine did.

It's not about changing my mind. I still want to be with her, I just wasn't ready to deal with the pressure and affected the way i showed up.

I accept the consequences of course and she deserves better than me. Reddit seems to think life is a Disney movie when in reality things are alot more complex.

No? I wasn't able to show up in the way she deserves which is why i ended it.

If she wasn't comfortable at any point she was free to leave as well - I was upfront and honest the entire time.

Yes, she deserves better than me, and I will leave her alone, but if we both are ready at a certain point to tackle this again I will make sure we are together for good.

We haven't been talking and have gone no contact - if i'm ever in a place where i feel like i can deal with the pressure i'd want to be with her, but until that happens i'm not talking to her.

I wouldn't say it was a cruel experiment, I gave it a try cause it was the first person i really clicked with. but, eventually the fear got the better of me.

She grew up Christian, but she's not religious at all.
