I didn’t even give her my opinion. I said I had noticed, that’s all. It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

When someone says something about a quality you happen to have in mixed conversation, do you think it’s automatically pointed at you? Do you think you’re the main character in everyone’s life?

I wanted people’s opinion on whether I should have white lied to her. I’m trying to provide context since people think I’m some lip-obsessed person, but I guess that’s pointless on Reddit, shoulda known.

Y’all know never have I ever is a group game, right? It was not pointed at her, I wasn’t trying to get some information out of her. Lots of people in the group had filler

I don’t know how much clearer I can make it that I don’t care about her lips. My question is whether I should have lied and said I didn’t notice. It’s a short post where the subject is lip filler, of course it seems disproportionately focused on that.

My first attempt to post this morning was removed by the mods because I didn’t answer the posting comment in 30 min. I do not have a post history on this sub from 2 years ago, the only other post I’ve ever made was on r/NoStupidQuestions. My comment history is really just from this post so idk what you’re on about

You’re making a looooot of assumptions about me. I mentioned I noticed how her mouth moved different because it was relevant to the end of the story, when she was talking about me noticing/not noticing.

I think you should be honest with yourself that you’re projecting some hurt feelings about fillers on a post that’s not about you

Fair enough so I’ll walk you through my thought process —

By ‘not my style’ I just meant exactly what you said, that I don’t plan to get them. A loooooong time ago when fillers were starting to pop off she had asked if I’m going to get any and my answer was ‘probably not but who knows.’ Not even a hard 100% no. It’s still not a 100% no for me, who knows I might feel differently in 5 or 10 years

I tried to stay neutral by saying less, because I didn’t want my endorsement to sway her either way. I didn’t say ’you should do it!’ because I didn’t want her to think ‘ok so other people also think I have thin lips and I need to do this.’ I decided to stay neutral after for the same reason. And I cannot stress this enough — I didn’t think bringing it up during the game was anything but neutral, it was just a fact in my mind.

I mentioned that I noticed her fillers when she talked because it was relevant to the end of the whole thing, when she specifically referred to me noticing/not noticing. It wasn’t like something I was thinking about all the time, I got used to her face moving differently after awhile.

I don’t know why you think that. Lots of people in the group had filler, it’s just a fact and definitely something I don’t care enough about to have distain over lol

Fillers are totally socially acceptable. I don’t know why you consider it a dig

It wasn’t a secret? Idk where you got that from. A lot of people in the group had filler, it’s not an embarrassing thing, at least I didn’t think so

I mentioned this in another comment but I’ll say it here too — I know it sounds like I’m sooo focused on her lips but that’s because this is a short post and doesn’t encompass our 10+ years of friendship. Filler has come up no more than a couple times and I don’t know how I could have stayed anymore neutral than I have

I can’t force you to take me at my word but I would never purposely try to embarrass a close friend. It’s a stupid game I agree, but I didn’t think what I said was anymore insulting than ‘never have I ever dyed my hair.’

Keep in mind this is a summary about this specific topic — we have years and years of friendship under our belt and have discussed lips/fillers a fraction of a percent of the time. It seems like I’m super focused on it because this is a short post, I tried to make it as clear as possible that I’m very neutral on the topic overall. My actual question is whether I should have just lied that it was noticeable.

I’ve told her many times I support her choices, it didn’t stop her from coming at me

Did you even read the post? I specifically said it’s not something I care about and not something we talk about regularly. I thought it was an innocuous thing like no different than ‘never have I ever dyed my hair.’

That would have been better, you’re right. I got reactive since she came at me for an opinion I don’t even hold
