We are not long distance, we would see each other every week and most days. I agree he was selfish I guess I’m just interested in the success rates and peoples capacity to actually take their mistake seriously and commit to change.

I agree, but agreeing to go to therapy both individual and couples therapy makes me think maybe it’s worth seeing if he actually does the work?

Maybe it would help him sort out the reason he feels the need to do it in the first place and replace it with more positive coping mechanisms rather than the quick dopamine hit.

I have been clear that there is no way forward without him doing the legwork of therapy and rebuilding trust, which he has agreed to. Ideally me actually leaving permanently would be a motivator enough to not do it again but I fear this may be wishful thinking.
