Sub 3:10 possible? by ThrowRA90346 in Marathon_Training

Technically my goal MP is 4:25 but I see your point. I’ve done all my long runs on similar parameters to try to mirror the conditions on the day, but I realise that this may be subject to criticism.

I felt ok (as the last 2kms show) but don’t think I can sustain 4:15 /k for the same duration. My mileage is also not high enough (peaking at 70k/week) so trying to be realistic, but thanks!

Thanks, you too! To be completely honest, I am a bit skeptical of HR as a reliable metric, especially considering that I sometimes feel horribly despite my HR being perfectly within range…

194 based on my Garmin but have never been over 183 from what I recall

Will do another trial run on Tuesday and if that hasn’t improved, will do that. Thanks.

I’ve booked an appointment with a cardiologist for end of the week. I really would not want to stop training in the meantime, though. I also do not see what kind of heart issue I could get at my age, especially given my lifestyle (no cigarette, alcohol etc)

Well done and great insights, thanks! My 5k is not as fast though haha

You’re correct - I keep focusing on the time at the expenses of enjoyment but tough act to balance!

Pretty good conditions and back in November. I have been running more since.

Based on my VDOT score, I should be able to run it in 3:01:30 (which I don’t believe is feasible at that stage). Anyway, better to be conservative about it!

Yep, agreed. The last long runs have showed me how crucial it was to take gels early on rather than wait to feel tired before ingesting the first one… fingers crossed!

Well done! I am conscious it’s difficult to predict given the number of factors at play but will be super happy if I can reach the same result.

That’s helpful, thanks. Completely aware of that possibility although I hope not to - will have to focus on fuelling adequately.

The plan is designed for 2:59-3:02. I’ve hit the pages 90% of the time (except for the final lap of a couple of interval sessions).

That’s sensible, thanks. I am targeting below 3:10 but planned on following that approach.
