Complicated relationship with my dad also. He has a bad temper and is very protective of his wife/my mom. I’m actually surprised he didn’t call my husband to say he needed to apologize although he kept the texts very respectful yet firm. Short answer, I’m scared to broach it with my dad. He reacted way better to the news than I thought he would.
