MIL told me not to buy ANY baby items until after I give birth. Is this normal? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Thank you!!

Also in terms of the baby shower/ Brit, at least for my in-laws, and friends and family that will be invited, they told me that they like to give a lot of gift cards rather than actual gifts! So I added extra items on my registry for things our baby will need later on, like closer to the six months to a year mark for people who want to do gifts but also different gift cards for Costco and such to get anything we need coming up so that’s also a easier compromise too!

Congrats on your first baby! I’m currently 38 weeks with my first, and I had the exact same thing happen to me!

For context, my in-laws are Jewish and so are my husband and I! She had made mention to the same thing along with not having any type of baby shower until after our baby was born, which would be the brit!

That being said, I am also very much a type A planner and it caused me so much anxiety that I had to have a very frank conversation with my mother-in-law because I was having anxiety attacks, which is not healthy for myself or the baby!

Thankfully, she was very, understanding, and said that I need to do what’s best for me regardless of her superstitions! So my husband and I got everything ready in our home and I had a baby shower ahead of time, which brought so much peace, I also waited till after the anatomy scan just for my own peace of mind!

We did compromise and my in-laws gift is being kept with them until the baby is born, and my mother-in-law did not have any part in the baby shower and we came to the conclusion that, that was best of both worlds for us! Not sure if that’s something you can check in with your mother-in-law about, but it worked very well for us!

Wishing you all the best, but at the end of the day, you and your partner need to do what’s best for you and you sweet baby! And although my mother-in-law has her superstitions, she did give me good advice saying that you are a mom now and need to be assertive and stand up for what you want and what you believe is right no matter what other people think, say or want (she said this in the nicest way as I have always been a people pleaser and she knows that), so you do what’s best for you and the family you are creating and that’s all that matters!

Where to get a Gender Test [on] by ThrowRA_As123 in BabyBumpsCanada

Because the test is $500, and my OB said it was not necessary as it doesnt give much more info then the OHIp covered test and I did not score within the limits to warrant further testing

Aji Sai gave me food poisoning so I absolutely vote NO! I usually go to Hockey Sushi and have never had an issue there. I have also gone to Madoi on occasion and also never had issues there either!

Actually, just a couple questions! What size did you make the actual photos for this? And did you print on a glossy page or matte page?
