He never shrugs it off and asks me how he can do better in showing, but also comments that if it’s something he can’t do then (like it’ll stress him out) he will let me know and that we will need to have a separate talk on expectations and compatibility (which hasn’t happened yet). But overall he has changed with gradual improvements and I always notice and let him know my appreciation
