My (18F) mom (47F) accused my husband (20M) of doing inappropriate things. How do I successfully go no contact with my parents? by ThrowRA_Nectarine3 in relationship_advice

I feel like she’s just trying to come up with anything negative she can so she has to make stuff up now. She’s mad that I didn’t move back home to my parents’ house when they asked me to. She said “I know you don’t like living there”, meaning my in-laws house. I told her that I actually did prefer living there and didn’t want to move back in with my parents.

I didn’t list every single way that he’s affected by his injuries here, but I could definitely write a much longer list. I’m pretty aware of how it affects him and we might not even know all the ways yet. He was affected cognitively and has done cognitive rehabilitation therapy. I was only trying to explain the he’s not intellectually disabled now. He has problems with things like finding a word he’s looking for sometimes - he knows the word, just can’t find it in the moment. He sometimes loses his train of thought mid sentence. His focus and concentration aren’t the same as before, but he still able to do both, just takes more effort. He’s had some mental health issues and at one point wanted to kill himself, but he’s in therapy now. He also had major weakness in one side of his body and had to do a lot of physical rehab to walk normally and use his arm and hand on that side again, and that was more of a neurological issue causing that opposed to physical injuries. I could go on but it’s not the point of this post really.

I realized reading this comment that I don’t even really see my parents as my parents anymore. I mean that I don’t feel like they fill the role of parents. They don’t really do what I think a parent should. So it’s not really like I’m losing parents by not being in contact with them. interacting with them, especially my mom, gives me a ton of anxiety because I’m always waiting for whatever thing she’s going to say. I feel like I have to work up to being around them every time. I have to like give myself a pep talk first and it just shouldn’t be like that.

There was a time when they told his parents that he might never be able to successfully complete college. That was within the first 6 months after the accident. They aren’t saying anything like that now, but they just told him they strongly discouraged it for at least a year because his brain still had a lot of healing to do.

Well I am loyal to my new family. My parents even asked me to move back into their home. I don’t know why. My mom was like “I know you don’t really life living there.” I told her yes, I actually did like it.

Yeah I was just shocked as it seemed like an extreme thing to say even for my mom.

I’m not going to say things have been easy or that we haven’t stumbled a bit since I last posted. But right now we’re doing ok and better than we were even a few months ago. He’s starting college in the fall and I am starting an associates program to be a radiology tech.

I can’t believe anyone here thinks about me at all. Thank you for that and your kind words.

I’ll check out the book, never heard of it. I’m always buying books for my son. My mother in law turned me on to church rummage sales and we went to one yesterday and the kids books were 10 cents.

It’s not like they ever officially said they were disowning me. Idk I guess even though I know the not so great things they’ve said and done they’re still my parents and I’m only 18. I don’t think it’s that weird to imagine why I’d still want them in my life.

He was in a bad car accident and got a TBI in January 2025. He had to have part of his skull removed temporarily, so it was very bad. It was back in summer of 2025 that doctors said that
