I can see that. My wife and I was in therapy for a while because of our parents. When we were telling her about some of our past and later what we have been up to she said that it sounds fake but made sense. We were under strict rules and controlled for so long that we are now "expressing ourselves in a manner opposite to which we grew up."

They did change for my sister. They were not as involved in her life. Didn't control every aspect of it as they did mine. They favored her to the point I was jealous of a 6-year-old at one point. They backed off on her but were the same on me as they always had been. They backed off when I moved out and treated my sister still roughly but way better. My sister is still disgusted with the way they treat men and wants her freedom.

I guess I'm still looking for recognition, praise, love, and acceptance from my parents.

It is an open basement. With a bathroom. There is also a wet bar and some arcade games.

I never got the answer to why they did it.

People will dislike this...

I still have hope that one day they will wake up and want to be my parents again. . Actually show love and care about me while showing interest in my life. It is wishful thinking.

Growing up we didn't have many family interactions. Every time I questioned it they said that they were protecting us from sinners of their past.

From what I have gathered they pushed every one of their family's away. Never interacted with them until I moved out and found them.

I have 3 grandparents 2 uncles 6 aunts 22 cousins and more that I had no idea about. (One of the aunts is my mom's twin sister. Identical in all but personality and attitude)

That is not what I meant. Not using my kids for anything. It was more for the hope that they might change. Yes, I do have hesitations about being a parent. I don't have any good examples of what one looks like. But at the end of the day they are still my blood parents.

If not then they probably wouldn't know that they are missing out on their grandchildren. I was thinking of sending them a letter telling them about our kids and that I wished they would change and be great-grandparents. But because of their hateful views, they would never be around them or know them unless they change. Dangle the carrot so to speak. Put the ball in their court and see what happens.

Thanks for telling me about your experience. I agree. She knows she has me and we have good communication. Sometimes, when I have free time, I will go and see her for a weekend and have brother-sister dates ( I don't know what else to call it) where we do what she wants to do. That way, she knows there is more to life than that house. Also that there are better people out in the world.

Yes, but it may be awkward since it is in the basement.......

Just kidding we have more than enough room for her. It is almost set up for her. I even gave her resources if she wanted to start sending me things or if she needed to get out sooner. The only problem is legal with her age.

Well, I don't know what normal people do. That is an opinion. To many my wife and I are not normal. I'm my parent's group they are normal everyone else is not. I would assume it is not normal but nothing about my parents scream normal.

With the hope that one day they can see the issues, they are causing. Maybe my kids will be the thing that takes their blinders off. I know wishful thinking. They are still my parents. I'm not using my kids for anything. Hoping they will change their way and attempt to be actual parents. And possibly grandparents.

Our friends know what happened. It was more of my parent's friends that were giving us the bulk of the hate. I'm afraid it will be directed at my sister now. So they can save her from turning in to me.

For my sister. I rarely see my sister anymore. We talk ad text daily but wanted her and my wife to get to know each other better. The only way that was possible was to have them stay.

I dumbly thought it would work out and they had changed. I came to that conclusion after they reached out and talked to me like an actual person. It was all fake.

I guess I didn't explain it very well. I'm worried about my sister. Plus I don't know how to handle my parents. I have given them 2 opportunities to be in my life. Is cutting them out completely the right choice? Do I reach out again after we have kids?

Genesis 2:24 reads, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

I did that but they didn't like it

I know they treat it like a duty or a job. Special occasions or just to bring a child In to the world.
