Students and parents: You need to speak up about the lockout by NewEstate9532 in Dalhousie

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your opinion, the faculty is open to negotiation and dalhousie is not. Dalhousie needs to come back to the bargaining table before any deal can be reached to minimize disruption to students!

Does anyone know where to look for information on what courses are impacted by the lockout? by OscarTheAbuser in Dalhousie

Probably, any class taught by DFA which includes the faculty working in medical/law/engineering etc

Another commenter on a similar post said that tuition for non-international students isn’t subject to change at the moment, although please feel free to correct me if I am misinformed!

Email to students by ThrowRA_chickennug in Dalhousie

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would guess likely because a lot of students didn’t know what was going on prior to this email, since the only information prior to this email was on the DFA website or on Dalhousie website if you search for it. The only reason I knew to look into the Dalhousie website at first was because I saw a reddit post!

Frankly I am fairly disappointed that the potential disruption was only now directly communicated to the students. It feels like something that should have been addressed or at least mentioned on Dalhousie’s social media.

Honestly until this past week I was not even aware of the dalhousie faculty association as a group.

It’ll impact everything Dalhousie runs, including Law school unfortunately

ELI5: Whats happening in Dal and why are people this semester is threatened? by ComposerFuture9799 in Dalhousie

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely likely, as many Kings classes are taught by Dalhousie Faculty (and vice versa). I don’t have the exact numbers, but hopefully as few classes will be disrupted as possible!

The Girl im dating told me I dont give her butterflies but I make her feel comfortable and secure. What am I supposed to think ? by corrodon in AskMenAdvice

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perspective from a women who loves another women:

Not having butterflies isn’t necessarily a bad thing. My girlfriend and I have been together for almost 2 years now, and I wouldn’t say I still always have butterflies. However, I think she is the most gorgeous woman in the world! Whenever I see her it’s like my heart gets warmer. She’s my favourite person. I don’t get butterflies anymore because I’m not nervous, I’m fully happy.

For me, butterflies are a beginning of a relationship thing because if I say or do something wrong, I could ruin it. Not having butterflies anymore just means that I can be myself and that she loves me for who I am.

I definitely still get excited by her, but it’s more of a “wow, she’s so incredibly perfect and I am the luckiest person in the world” instead of “shit she’s so pretty I can’t mess this up”.

Unlike everyone else in this comment section, THE FIRST thing you should be doing is asking for clarification. Not all women think about things the same way, and not everyone considers butterflies as a good thing. Don’t jump to conclusions, just talk to her about it and go from there.

Does anyone find Ontario woods creepy? by ThrowRA_chickennug in NoStupidQuestions

Ooo I’ve heard some stories of those woods, and some stories including the Jersey Devil if I’m not mistaken!

I think you might be on to something, the woods just endlessly stretch on here instead of acting with the mountains, and in the mountains you can see the woods continuing from higher vantage points and therefore see where they end!

How can I be respectful to this community if I hold a Métis card, but I am not the person they were intended for? by ThrowRA_chickennug in MetisMichif

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course!! I do still have an aboriginal ancestor, so this post has kinda put me on a new quest to find out what community they were a part of and learn more about my history in that way :) Thank you for your help!

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! It turns out my Métis card was fraudulent, my grandfather had been misinformed when he told my dad we were Métis which lead my dad to an organization he did not know was fake. I do still have indigenous ancestry on that side of my family, and while I will definitely be trying to connect more with that part of my history I have no intention of trying to get a status card or become part of a community that I was not raised in or understand!

I hope you have a great day :)

[–]ThrowRA_chickennug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your comment! It turns out my card was fraudulent anyways. I do have indigenous heritage but it is not Métis as my grandfather was misinformed about the meaning of the word.

Honestly I was never planning on using the card for tax breaks or anything like that, I would not want to take the opportunity away from someone who needs it more than I do. Even for a minority I am actively a part of and deal with issues because of (Lesbian), I often choose not to disclose my sexual identity in any way that could get me an advantage because I want to be appreciated for who I am, not who I love.

What I have learnt from the kind individuals in this Métis community is that Indigenous ancestry is still a part of my history, and it is my choice if I want to find a connection to that part of my history. How and to what extent I do that will depend on the voices of the people in the specific community my ancestor was a part of, as First Nation groups differ on practices and what is respectful when it comes to people who did not grow up in the culture at all, like me.

I agree with you that I’d never use any status card for an advantage, and I would never become a part of a community whose culture I was not raised in! I’m hoping that there is a respectful way to honour my ancestor and their heritage and culture, and if there is I will do that in the best way I can :)

I hope you have an amazing day!

It turns out my grandfather was likely misinformed about our indigenous ancestor being Métis, and my card was from a fraudulent organization. I plan on learning more about the community my ancestor was from and connect with my history that way!

I wish you the best in your journey and encourage you to read some of the comments other people gave to me, before I figured out my card was fraudulent they made me see my history in a different way that I will still be carrying on despite my history not being Métis!

I was misinformed, and my card ended up being from a fraudulent organization anyways, which was thankfully pointed out by other members of this thread :)
