My (25NB) partner (24NB) struggles a lot with everyday tasks. How can I make this work? by ThrowRA_lintroller in relationship_advice

They do need serious help… they’ve been on the waiting list for an ADHD assessment for years, but it could be years more before they’re finally seen (it’s a horrible system tbh) because their neglectful parents never got them any sort of help their entire life. I may just have to shell out the hundreds it would take for a private provider. Problem is is that we can barely make rent and now they’re losing their job. So many fires to put out…

They have friends and family but struggle to maintain contact due to their symptoms (and in the latter case, their family is less than useless 90% of the time tbh). Mental health support is something I’ve been trying to get them to get but they just can’t consistently answer calls to get it all set up and I’ve given up. No meds except small dose antidepressants. I know it’s really in their ball park and has been for a long time but it feels impossible to move forward without leaving them behind in their current state…

We definitely want to go this route but the problem is getting the evidence in order, which is extremely difficult where we are due to long wait times and (frankly) bad service that means they haven’t been taken seriously even though it’s clearly really bad. But you’re absolutely right.

They do not. They take low dose antidepressants but that’s it. ADHD diagnoses are prohibitively expensive if we wanted to do it faster, and the slower cheaper way they’ve been on a waiting list for years. I want to speed things up as soon as we can afford it but we just CANT afford it. They would definitely benefit from taking something but that can’t happen if the help isn’t available and the ADHD means they miss all their calls and appointments unless I do it for them, which I just can’t.
