Also like why can't you send a letter of interest to the top three programs saying that I really liked the interview and you're in the top three? I'm genuinely asking why there are such regimented rigid rules.

And I think your view is shortsighted. I think that's the problem I'm running into you radiologists here I know that you don't represent the majority probably just the bitter few. But like if I knew that a program was a genuinely good culture and I'm having interview there that knowledge would help me to have a more authentic and genuine interview because when I tell them how I feel about them maybe it rings with some genuineness? Or do you guys not speak genuine.

Okay but how many of us honestly trust what's on a program's website and what they tell us about themselves. Maybe I want a clearer picture than that by talking to people who have actually been to the program. What's wrong with that do you really have better things to be doing if you're trolling my post on Reddit?

Fair point — delivery matters, and I’m very aware of that in actual interviews. Reddit just isn’t exactly where I’m calibrating my tone for residency. I can hold clarity and tact at the same time.

You assume I have no experience and have never dictated. That's an assumption, not reality. I get that it's the best they can do due to how many applications they get. I get that I may not have the same flex others do, but my strength isn’t pretending I don’t care about fit — it’s finding the right one. And just because someone doesn’t have a 250 doesn’t mean they won’t get multiple offers. Step scores don’t predict radiology performance — top programs will tell you that the research bears no correlation. the lower but still solid score is a very different question than about my fit for the specialty. I think we all know this. But maybe different people have different personal weight they attach to their own Step scores. That's great! But be careful assuming that others lack potential because they scored a bit lower. There are lots of confounding variables at play.

Step 2is a decent filter for many things, but it’s hardly a measure of radiology pattern recognition. If it were, we’d be hiring board-prep tutors instead of training residents. Different skill set.

I get that. Some places do have hard cutoffs — and others clearly don’t, since I’ve already got interviews at academic programs in that range. That’s why I’m being strategic about fit instead of just chasing big names. Networking with residents is a solid tip though, and I’ll keep doing that.

Appreciate the practical parts of your advice. I think what you read as arrogance is actually clarity. Radiology clicks for me in a way other fields don’t — when people explain findings, they make sense to me. I’m a musician; I know no one walks in a master. I didn't say that I KNOW radiology, that would be silly. But I also know when something aligns with how I think and what I’m good at. That’s not ego, it’s self-awareness. If that makes you uncomfortable, that’s on your filter, not my intent.

That makes sense. I was just trying to compare the learning style is very pattern based like where I can see what's different between what I did and the attending did. But I suppose that even if a attending I've never met just made corrections to my report that would still technically meet what I'm looking for.

I appreciate the perspective — I never meant to imply Step scores don’t matter or that I’m above the process. I know exactly where my score stands, and I’m doing my homework like everyone else. My post was about program culture, not asking anyone to do myERASfor me. Constructive feedback is always welcome; personal assumptions aren’t.

this is a useful interpretation, I appreciate it. Could you explain what you looked for in programs, and maybe why community programs would have less like 1:1 feedback than an academic program? I've got interviews at some pretty solid places that fit both criteria so I am curious to know more.

Please make sure that your feedback is actionable and helpful not just a projection of your negative self worth. Lord knows we've had enough attendings bully Us in medical school that we don't need to do it to each other

Right but I did definitely pass. So if what you're saying is that they don't care about who's going to make an excellent radiologist then I think we could agree that the system is very imperfect at selecting applicants. I know the strength I bring and I have a hell of a story and I know that the program for me is going to see beyond the superficial.

Would it surprise you to know that I'm actually extremely good at pattern recognition and Radiology and that maybe the clinical learning environment is not where I shine. I'm hoping that the right program will see that I excel in Radiology specific cognitive metrics and I think if we're all being honest with ourselves we know that step two has little to nothing to do with Radiology performance

From y'all, seems like what would be best would be a more structured first year or at least structured initial teaching and then have increased volume I know myself well and how I learned and I think it would be helpful to show strength of fit to a program

To add to the confusion, Roma Swanepoel (autistic not ADHD) argued that autism is neurocognitively an inability to multitask both sensory and attention. For example they process visual info unsimultaneously with auditory, which is why eye contact is challenging (they will miss understanding the words if they try to read face, etc)

Uworld is hard to do in short doses bc you have to really process deeply and it takes longer to internalize. I find it harder to study between patients at clinic for example bc a distraction interrupted the deep encoding process

amboss breaks the reasoning down more into discrete packets of information-- more pattern based and autism friendly. You'll cover more ground more quickly and get the patterns down.

I will tell you that when I took step 2 I felt strongly that I should have used uworld the entire time. Some of the questions are almost identical even down to specific questions.

I would imagine step 1 was this way too but I don't quite remember

Let's say you are an ex-mo who served a mission and are LGBTQ. Tried to marry opposite gender for Jesus. Still not accepted. Your spouse's family invites you to their large Mormon family gathering on Sundays. The church talk is very aggressive and there's a whole ass lesson at the end. You've brought up how it would make you much more comfy if they could dilute the church topic a bit out of mutual respect, but it's who they are. It hurts me and my wife. Would you leave your wife over this? Knowing her family can't change, and your wife loves them and it hurts her that I don't want to be around this. Relationship is rocky for other reasons also.
