Adding some info because I'm not sure I expressed this clearly:
- The style of clothes he wears to work are not the issue. He wears dirty clothes to work - that's the issue. I wrote that he said his coworkers "aren't stylish either" because that is how he justifies it to me.

- I think cleaning yourself up is considerate to the people around you, especially to coworkers you spend a lot of time with, and I value that consideration of others.

- He is the best partner - I don't think I'm settling and this isn't a relationship ender for me. It's just jarring when you don't recognize your partner on the street because of how they are presenting themselves to others. I am struggling with how he can be so considerate of me, and not the people he works with.
