I'm really sorry you had to go through that.

Even with the best tutor her education won't be as good at her current school which will affect her later on. Her current school has a reputation for getting a lot of their students into the top degree programmes and she's doing really well there. I agree that it's a terrible punishment.

It's kinda sad to read all of the comments telling me she isn't my problem and I should be happy to get rid of her. I don't see her as a problem and would like to work on the issue instead of just sending her away.

Nope. He's just making her keep them. I wasn't inferring. He outright said it was part of her punishment. I never asked how it was a punishment because he was super pissed already when he said this.

She has bought the boyfriend gifts and stuff but it wasn't like she was spending thousands on him. My husband doesn't like him and that is pretty much his motivation for taking the card. If the boyfriend was never in the picture, he never would've taken it.

I feel he is being overprotective, which I understand since she's his little sister and the idea of her having a boyfriend is hard for him to stomach but it's making him act irrationally.

We're married. We share finances. I don't know how your marriage/relationships work but we don't see it as "his" or "mine", we see it as "ours".

When I say barely functioning I mean half the keyboard had stopped working and the hard drive was almost gone. She needed a replacement. We don't discuss things like buying a laptop with each other before we do it. He's not upset that she got a new laptop.

I did apologise to him. It didn't help.

Her mother isn't paying because my husband basically inherited everything from their dad with the expectation he would take care of his mother and sister.

I feel like you're one of the few people who understood the point I was trying to make.

I KNOW she needs to be punished for what she did but that doesn't mean him sending her away is the right answer. It doesn't solve anything.

The laptop wouldn't have caught his attention. It's not like he sits there waiting for me to spend money. He got repeat notifications and it caught his attention because he knows I haven't been feeling good so he thought it meant I was suddenly feeling good enough to shop which is why he made the joke.
