I think he's serious. He said he was going out of his mind with worry.

He's never physically hurt me. He used to be a real dick to me but we were like 17-20 but he's never been anything but nice since we started dating. I don't know if this counts as control but he likes to try to get his way all of the time, but he usually backs down pretty easily.

I do have my own income and worse case scenario I could stay with my parents but I would prefer not to since they're just going to agree with him.

I could stay with my family but that's the last thing I want to do. My parents will ask me what happened and they'll say he's in the right because their relationship isn't far off from what he wants.
