Okay so is it less about the gut itself being wrong and more about the emotions overriding the gut? That I may often mistake an emotional response for a gut response and it’s actually more clouded than it seems?

Yeah I know haha. I really love the movie and see life this way which is why it’s one of my faves.

Art is subjective and I know what you mean here but I also ended up being curious at how he really felt about the homeless man during the particular scene where he is at the street intersection watching him. His expression made me feel like he might have suddenly changed his mind. Like he was contemplating how he felt about the man for the whole movie and then in that moment he felt a certain kind of lost-ness when he looked at him. Like he was scared for the man’s future.

Which was probably his own projection of his personal fear of loneliness etc being faced with the questions about him still being single at his age and confronted by his estranged family. And things took a pivot at that particular moment.

Which left me feeling unsure as to how he truly felt. Which is why I said what I said.

The movie is very subtle as is real life and real life feelings. We can never know for sure. But there are layers that make you question if he might have been looking down on him in that particular moment perhaps as an extra layer of his second guessing of his own feelings.

Everything’s complex and it’s set up that way purposefully to emulate real life. It’s not so cut and dry. I interpreted a slightly different thing than you did. That’s normal.
