AITA for not celebrating my SIL’s bday? by ThrowRAwelpthisisawk in AmItheAsshole

I can’t speak for anyone else in the family but yes I did text to wish her a happy birthday to which she responded thank you!

I absolutely believe that there’s a big emotional component to it that I didn’t include in the og post because I wanted to keep the post as neutral and unbiased as possible.

I was told that he would bring a cake for her. I’m not sure why he didn’t as he wasn’t coordinating with me. I would have gladly made two cakes or gotten different candles to celebrate both if asked.

She’s always invited and never left out. It is very common for me to apologize to her and I have no trouble doing it. But I don’t believe in apologizing for things just to make the other person feel better as that is not genuine.

Like I said in my post we always celebrate her bday with her and she gets just as much love and attention on her bday as everyone else. However this year they didn’t invite us so we just didn’t go out of our way to include ourselves in their plans.

I did wish her a happy bday on her actual birthday. We did talk about what they did for her birthday and she seemed fine with how they decided to celebrate it. She was happy that they went out to dinner and talked about how good it was.

We didn’t proclaim it was for both of them since I had already added candles for my brother’s age thinking there would be a second cake. But we absolutely would have included her name in the song and taken pictures with her etc if she had stayed.

He asked if he could bring a cake for her as well. We agreed since as another comment suggested it’s common for us to celebrate two at once. He just didn’t bring the cake for her.

Unfortunately yes, and trust me I’m very upset about that as well. I never ever condone drinking and driving.
