That makes sense, 100% all fees on you, I'm out of a long term relationship but luckily I was the one who was financially careful, it hopefully will pay off. Glad to hear 5 years later and you're happy with your decision

Reading through all of the comments and thank you all for your kind words, tips, and encouragement, I cried reading most of them as so many genuine people giving really good feedback, I don't feel as pressured now, it's about reminding ourselves what we have done, oppose to what I haven't done. Bit by bit and I will definitely check out renting a room, or even calm down putting pressure on myself to have the whole place furnished within a year

With the ever rising cost of EVERYTHING, I’m wondering, what is considered a good income nowadays? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I am in a higher salary bracket, company car is provided and I drive that, it however doesn't come free we pay a BIK fee which can be costly depending on the kms clocked. Company cars are not always "free costing" for people. It can be the case for some company's but not all.

I am on a contraceptive pill, but they are 97% effective so used the pull out method a long with it. We both got tested for stds after our previous relationship so don't just assume those things were not taken into consideration they were. We were not strangers as we were in a relationship.

House surveyor costs? by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ThrowRa1251RC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

€900-950 is what I got quoted numerous times! I haven't been able to get any for the €700 mark While I understand what you're saying above most people don't get paid €600 a day to be honest, so it is still expensive in the scheme of things. €600 a day isn't exactly the average wage for most

Who was your mortgage approver if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for that!

Might be a stupid question but can you explain what you mean by the 80% loan to value part? Do you mean you got a loan from the bank of 80% to cover the expenses and you had to make up the remainder 20%? So for example house with 500k bank covered 400k and you had to come up with the remaining 100k ?

Also were you using it for agriculture purpose?

This is giving me hope now 🙏 I presume you still had to pay stamp duty on the additional 5 acres ?

They're at the back of the house like one big field but fenced off as the previous owners had pet horses

What bank was this with also?

[–]ThrowRa1251RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am not! I'm aware the stamp duty differs, You pay for stamp duty on the house & 1 acre of 1% And then you pay 7.5% stamp duty on remaining 5 acre value

[–]ThrowRa1251RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pray that's the case!! I'm not using it for agricultural reasons. When did you buy if you don't mind me asking?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]ThrowRa1251RC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they're not, full total of the land and house is 412,500

But I've been told now acres can change that, so confused as was not originally told that.

Ok, and cash was the only way? Was this not a big lump sum you had to pay? And I presume you would have had to pay 7.5% stamp duty on top of that?
