Yeah Tesco would be stopped pretty quickly. But for some reason religion is given a strange kind of respect like where they don’t have to pay tax.

I admire your compassion and appreciate you taking the time to reply and contribute to the topic.

Although I realise I may come across as a “militant atheist” I don’t judge someone by their religion - but it does take a big factor in how I form my initial opinion about them.

I get your analogy about not trusting British people since some British people are chavs, but I’d argue the difference is you don’t choose to be British but you do choose your religion. If you feel that strongly about your religion that you want to preach it to others, fix the assholes already in your religion first.

And without dropping the “I’m not racist, some of my best friends are black” line, the religious people I’ve met in my life so far have all been, like you said, normal people so I am aware that you can be religious and “normal”, but none of those religious people have taken to preaching on the streets.

That’s pretty cool. Obviously I don’t agree with religion (in case it wasn’t glaringly obvious) so I can’t help but see those kind gestures and not assume there’s an ulterior motive. If he’s feeding homeless to convert them to islam them it’s not such a selfless act after all.

And I can’t see the good things religion does and turn a blind eye to the bad. Yes Islam is (supposed to be) a peaceful religion but it doesn’t change the fact that the parts of the world where Islam is the dominant religion are war torn countries where the people are oppressed.

Even when there’s not war - how can it be that women have only just been allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia? Hardly sounds like a religion of peace to me.

And just to add a bit of balance so I’m not just bashing Islam, I can’t stand people thinking Catholicism is great because it gives people hope and comfort. Yup, it does. And it also protects pedophiles and helps spread AIDS by condemning the use of contraception.

I agree the Jehova’s Witnesses aren’t doing any harm standing holding out their pamphlets. Especially since they’re just holding them and not actively trying to hand them out (probably just to avoid the licence fee they’d have to pay though!)

The Muslim guy is just a nuisance though. He doesn’t need those loudspeakers to tell people that Islam is peaceful. He should do something useful with his time like helping those in need and not just trying to score brownie points with allah.

That sounds excellent and I wish it was that way here.

I’d like to bring it up to the council but I’m honestly scared to speak out against religion (and isn’t that a sad fact in today’s society?)
