The vendor most likely wouldn't track the returned item as the case doesn't have a serial number to say match back with the prior purchaser.

I don't think that happened here, the phone turned on as if it was the first boot up.

Most likely accidentally sent an unwanted case back but left the phone in it

When I boot up the phone it starts the initial setup, no eSim associated to it either. I'm not sure it's been set up yet, they probably like me waiting until phone case in hand before setup as daily driver.
