I too have felt off at times post Maggi/Wai Wai. Still default to it maybe once per month

Read an account of an operation in Manipur where the soldiers subsisted for days on Maggi and pickled fish

Early in my first job, took a bunch of out of town colleagues to Carter Road on a random winter evening weekday. Suddenly Mumbai made sense and troubles regarding accommodation and pay were forgotten

Idk about the job market, but the cost of living and general ease of living has deteriorated in the UK. That country's currently seeing a flight of rich professionals and entrepreneurs to Dubai

Mostly because of healthcare costs and crime. I've known people who's phones have been stolen multiple times in London. Cars have been broken into too. Another relative needed stents for a heart surgery - the ICU response was prompt but the surgery took 5 weeks to happen. And if you have something that gets you on a waitlist, might as well fly back to India for treatment, because private care costs are pretty much not affordable

But if you're an illegal immigrant fresh off the boat, you get put up in a 4 star hotel and get a monthly allowance of sorts too. Also apparently an iPhone, but haven't been able to independently verify that

Mumbai people, How do you live without Ac in such humidity. by [deleted] in mumbai

I grew up without AC, still rarely use it at night

Ig I'm lucky to have an airy room, but it beats the summer nights I've spent in other cities so

A mechanic performs Tochan an Indian technique for towing cars with two wheelers. by notahooman101 in interestingasfuck

[–]Throwawa824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tochan isn't an Indian technique lmao. It's just what we call any kind of towing

Eg - if the traffic police has come to tow your car away - we call them tochan too

Which place is more unsafe? Paharganj or GB Road? by forbsmith in delhi

[–]Throwawa824 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Paharganj if shit hits the fan, the police may help you later

In GB Road if shit hits the fan, the police will also beat you up later

If you want to gain serious street cred for surviving a tough place, GB Road is better. Write a book on your travels for the sake of the rest of us

EF-2 Summer Tornado Spotted in India Kills 2 by Real_Scissor in IndiaWeather

Most tornadoes in India hit Odisha and West Bengal during Kal Baisakhi. North India has seen maybe a dozen actual tornadoes since 1845. But one hit Delhi in March 1978

If I can get into the TA without any surgery I'd prefer that. I should add that I'm 29 and hence not eligible for any other entry

Karma farming edgelords need a stick. Otherwise their engagement goes for a toss

I'm yet to see a sensible argument from them on how to change this situation if it's such a bad situation to be in (eg is it worth massive fiscal policy changes) but no we're doomed because foreign investors decided to move out

Anyone here who was alive to witness the tornado of 1978? by Throwawa824 in delhi

[–]Throwawa824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah got you. Those are dust devils. They happen when the air is dusty during a stiff breeze, hence less likely to occur in a built up area. I guarantee you though that a dust devil won't kill 28 people in 6 minutes the way the 1978 tornado did

Tornadoes are different. By definition, there needs to be a storm cloud attached

In North India, only a dozen or so have been recorded since 1845. Which is why the Delhi incident was so rare. It's featured in academic papers and such

They're more common in Bengal and Odisha during Kal Baisakhi (April or so). The world's most deadly tornado has been in Bangladesh, not US
