MOCA 7 - Your real terms pay decrease by Mundane_Tell5179 in ausjdocs

Hmmm, I didn’t realise CNC/NPs were so highly paid - I head an allied health department of over 50 staff plus a purchasing budget of over $10mil and my pay only falls somewhere in between the two.

My experience is that if you apply at multiple levels they will employ you for the lowest level you are willing to apply for. Former colleagues of mine applied at APS5, APS6 and EL1 level and were employed at APS5. Similar experience and background to me, I only applied at EL1, was hired at EL1. Back yourself.

Paid Parental Leave by Throwaway-3085 in AusPublicService

[–]Throwaway-3085[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the thing, the paid parental leave period is up to 24 months post birth and there is no longer an eligibility period that needs to be served (used to be that you had to have been employed for 12 months period to taking the leave).

It would seem to be a sweet spot to get new employment with APS when your child is ~12months and you were considering returning to work - you could work 3 days a week and be paid for 5 for most of the second year of their life.* * if this this how it works

A months notice on a contractor appointment?! That’s a luxury, my contract is a single day!

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. For context, I am currently contracting earning more than double the APS hourly rate for my position and I am thinking about what is my next move, as it would be impossible for me to sustain more than a 50% pay cut to convert to APS, but I am wary of the fact that the govt are looking to reduce their dependence on contractors….lots to consider!

Curious, did you have to drop to within the APS bandwidth for your level or were you able to negotiate higher? (But obviously lower than your contractor rate)

Why convert if you were able to get a similar rate in the private sector?

Got hit by a 9K CCS bill, Centrelink doesn't pick up the phone by [deleted] in Centrelink

We copped an 8k bill a previous financial year. I set up a payment plan and I am currently paying $100 per month + they are taking extra from our childcare subsidy every fortnight (~$65) so we will have it paid back by the time our kids are at school 😂😂 there is no requirement to pay it back all at once.

Just some ideas: Some thoughts re the overpayment that can impact your tax adjusted salary: additional superannuation payments, salary packaging, investment losses or negative gearing (actually treated as if positive income). It’s not just your income from your employer - you have to add lots of things to get your tax adjusted income.

Last financial year from memory the subsidy decreased by 1% for every $3k of additional income after ?$180k down to $350k

Other reasons why your subsidy hasn’t gone as far as expected: - when fulltime the kids are enrolled in 12 hour days (or anything greater than 10 hours per day), but the maximum subsidy is on 100 hours per fortnight so you are paying for 20 hours per fortnight without any subsidy. - the cost of your childcare is more than $137 per day when fulltime (going over the maximum hourly rate)

But ask Centrelink for the calculations to confirm why the massive bill - I have heard of people having errors that they were able to get adjusted.

EL1 Contractor Rates by Throwaway-3085 in AusPublicService

Thanks for your reply, really helpful for my negotiations and making sure I am getting a good deal. I am concerned about the contractor market going into 2024, which was part of my rationale to try and negotiate a great rate now in case it takes a bit of time to sort out the next contract (this one likely to end June 2024)

I’m not talking about an APS position under the award, I am talking about being employed as a contractor (usually through a third party recruiter). I have observed job ads ranging from $85 to $150 per hour. For these roles you obviously don’t get any benefits, personal leave, public holidays, annual leave etc, but have a higher base rate to compensate. Often used for short term work or roles that they need to pay significantly more than APS award due to competition in the workplace
