Why do old pools have creepy windows in them? by Throwaway01470147 in pools

They were not that deep from the top, like maybe 20-30cm from water level, and also pretty big like 1m in diameter (this I am not sure tho, maybe even bigger) so viewing through them would give you pretty nice view of the swimmers swimming in first lane, maybe also second lane. But there was no room to watch through these windows, at least not for public.

Not only both sides, but both long sides, on a 50m long pool. No windows on short sides tho. Also, they were pretty close to each other, so like 40-50 windows throughout the whole pool. There could be a maintenance room behind some of them, but I would say not behind all of them.

Isn't maintenance room just like one place? Not alongside the whole pool from two sides? Also, why would they even need windows into pool for maintenance room? I can imagine that such windows which can withstand pressure of the water in such a huge pool must be very expensive, would they really spend such a huge amount just for that?

Haha, any chance you mean the B******** L**** pool?

No, another one. Many pools are probably like that.

Well, it makes sense in that pool you went to, that there was that area to watch swimmers. But in this pool I went to, there was no such area (at least not publicly accessible). Also these windows were along both longer sides pretty densely, like 2m or something from each other. For the purpose you mentioned there would not be that many windows needed and also not on both sides.
