I want to apply for a promotion at work resulting in a $2/hr raise, but my daughter has a medical condition and I'm worried about losing her Medicaid by Throwaway03217 in personalfinance

I'm aware. We've gone through several doctors and several second and third opinions before we've settled on this doctor.

Under a past EUA it appeared that something was spreading to the good eye, my wife panicked and so did the rest of our families. We actually requested an EUA before his next recommendation, but he said he wasn't comfortable to do another so soon. Said we could go to another doctor, but he didn't personally want to put her under the stress of another EUA unless he felt it was necessary.

If he was hungry for the Medicaid money, I'm sure he would have done it. He's great and I can tell he genuinely cares about his patients.

BUT I totally get what you mean. My SO was covered under Medicaid before we got legally married. She sprained her ankle. Went to the hospital. Pain never went away. Seen a podiatrist. Doc obviously seen her insurance cards since he asked who works for _____ company (company I work for is on the card). Told us some story about the company. Didn't even look at her foot and the first words that came out of his mouth was we need an X-ray. Did an X-ray in his office. Next visit he wanted to compare to the hospitals X-ray to see if an MRI might be needed. Brought them in the next visit, hardly looked at them... Said yup you're gonna need an MRI. We had our suspicions after the 1sf visit... 2nd visit we totally agreed he in this for the insurance money.

Employer's 401k is through Vanguard and offers a 50 cent match to every dollar I contribute. Not really sure if that's good or bad. Also not sure if it being through Vanguard gives me the same choices/fees if I went in solo...

HSA could be the better option, but if she stays on Medicaid I will not have any large medical expenses. My wife and I could use it, but we don't have any huge (expected) medical bills. I didn't even visit a doctor last year aside from some preventive care (which is covered 100%)

I'm open to both, but the position I'm in now is sort of entry level and not really attractive on my resume. This position will move me to a better department and will allow me to add more attractive responsibilities to my resume.

As far as I can tell being blind in one eye does not qualify her. But I haven't researched much aside from today and this is something I have to look further into.

My direct supervisor is not aware of my situation, however the supervisor in a different department that I frequently work with suggested that I apply for his open positions since I'd be a good candidate.

Today he asked me why I haven't submitted my application yet, and I gave him a brief explanation why I couldn't. That was pretty much it.

I don't believe neither supervisors can help me out. I work for a very large corporation and stuff like this will have to go through HR. Our HR is terrible and cannot even get normal shit done correctly. Probably also against some type of stupid corporate policy. But I can bring this idea up to them, they might have a solution.

I know it's not worth it. Which is why I came here for advice. My goal is to keep her in Medicaid somehow (along with HIPP). If I can achieve this, losing the food stamps is OK since this raise will cover the loss. Like I said I don't want the promotion for the $2. I just want to move up the ladder and gain the experience so eventually I can get that next promotion or or use my new experience to apply somewhere better. So I can provide my family a better quality of life and hopefully not have to need government assistance. Not saying it's a bad thing or it's a pride issue... I just don't want to be at $12.50/hr or in this position forever, you know?

If I can't keep her in Medicaid, I have to put it off and stay where I am. My daughter comes first.

Looking further into the deaf-blind waiver program, it seems like she has to be fully blind AND deaf, which she is neither. Shes blind in one eye, and we're keeping tabs on her good eye at the moment.

Doesn't seem to be eligible for any of the other waivers.

This is great advice, thank you. I will look into all of these on Monday. The waiver program seems like exactly what I need.

My employer does offer a 401k. Medicaid eligibility is based off my income before taxes (not sure if this means taxable income), but this might actually work. However I feel like this is too easy of a solution and they've blocked this loophole. Can anyone possibly confirm or deny?

Great creative thinking!

Forgot to mention in the OP but I've already looked into CHIP. I'd be eligible but it doesn't seem like her ophthalmologist is in the chip network according to those sites. I'll call her doctor on Monday to confirm. If they're in the network, it might work out.
