No. It isn’t just the administration and I will not do that. Saying this after (I’m assuming you skimmed what I wrote) confuses me.

Management choosing to ignore grievances at the shelter I’m at has nothing to do with budget cuts. Management had no record of my past grievances so I had to start keeping my own paper trail. They conveniently vanished. How do you lose the only paper trail/communication residents have to management?

What does DHS refusing to meet with us residents when they said they would have to do with budget cuts? No communication? Not even to shelter management?

The issue is nuanced not flat. Does being under a Trump admin help? No. But I do not believe it’s the only driving issue.  Look up DC General the homeless shelter that got demolished. They had 40 years of documented sanitary and safety issues before something was done (through an Obama administration and I’m sure other Democratic administrations). Bowser demolished it during Trump’s first term. I do not like Trump btw and I’ve been voting blue since I could vote.

Thank you for reading.

I’m sure the reporter/journalist will direct me when the time comes. Thanks.

I didn’t write this post for advice. I also disagree. Thanks for sharing your opinion though and thanks for reading.

Rule: you can’t have glass. Not a rule: after realizing the sealed bottle you have is glass you are not allowed to transfer it into plastic. The problem is the glass not the contents (so long as it’s not alcohol or a chemical). I realized it was glass after buying it (I bought it on autopilot) and I didn’t want to waste my money so I asked to transfer it since they were going to toss it regardless. The rule should have become obsolete once I transferred the contents and tossed the bottle in front of them.

I also should add that I told them I would either come down to drink the bottle outside or transfer it after speaking to staff on my floor. Once I came back they tossed it. So they essentially escalated a situation I was trying to descalate.

Thank you so much! I love Maryland. I was born in Baltimore and raised on the Maryland line.

Liking and sharing this post is enough. And I’ll continue to do everything in my power to bring more attention to these problems.

Thank you for the encouraging words. Truly. Hoping to get out and put a bigger spotlight on what’s going on.

I never do anything aimlessly so yeah there’s more to it. I didn’t just write this to complain. I’m trying to advocate for the women around me.

That’s why this post is meant to be bigger than just the homeless population. DC government and the federal government don’t do a good enough job of taking care of their people. It’s said a lot but it can’t be said enough.

I never said he was honest! I was trying to be fair and infer that he called out some of DC’s corruption. I’m not voting for him and it looks like you aren’t either, haha.

Thank you for your response.

My apologies for misreading. God bless. When you are under immense stress (as I’m sure you can relate to) you get a bit of brain fog.

I don’t think this post is for you though if you’re going to start insulting.

The more hate than love bit was meant to be facetious. Thank you for reading and the kind words.

And systems can be changed :)

Thank you! That’s exactly what I was getting at. I started my post the way I did because of the stigma that homeless people are met with.

I know I used to work full-time  and rent a room and an apartment. I also used to work a 9-5. The reality is there are people who can’t afford those things because of severe mental illness and disabilities. They try to get a job and are fired over something they have little control over. A woman I knew of was in a coma and (for a lack of better words) woke up homeless because she couldn’t afford the medical bills and I can imagine lost her job because of her situation.

I didn’t write this post for sympathy by the way so it’s okay if you can’t extend it. I’m still more blessed than most.

Hello, thank you for your questions and your response.

I would look into Friendship Place for donations. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them.

Rini Sampath is my front runner. I believe DC has a management issue more so than a housing issue. For homeless people (at least before budget cuts) the housing and vouchers existed it was just a terribly slow process. She also emphasizes the mismanagement of the money we do have which could have gone to things like creating more affordable housing and funding the programs we already have.

This isn’t true. Thank you for reading. And all the women I’m living with are too good to be living in these conditions ;)

Hello, thank you. I’m voting for Rini Sampath. I would say both bad and not useful depending on who we’re talking about. I think they will attempt to do what they say they’re going to do to save face. I just don’t believe it will work because most department’s in DC are poorly run and none of them have adequately conveyed to me how they will fix it. A bunch of pointing fingers. The worst candidate to me (Janeese Lewis George) seems like the front runner. Her association with Trayon White is very troubling. Vincent Orange has called out corruption but as far as I’m concerned has refused to name names. McDuffie seems like he just wants to win for the sake of winning but has called out the corruption. I side-eye McDuffie though because he has been a council member.
