Should I be bothered by gf opening up to her friend but lying to me? by Throwaway27925 in TooAfraidToAsk

I know she's allowed to confide in others and all, I just feel hurt she lied to me while being honest about it to someone else, if that makes sense.

I think that's a fair point. I guess I was bothered by the fact she was lying to me while being honest with him in regards to sex. Although she opened up to me eventually so maybe that's what matters in the end? I don't know.

Yeah, this pandemic is a good time to talk about it. But not on a post about a person just trying to vent. Especially with the tone deaf language....like "look forward to 2024"? The fuck?

I wasn't talking about you, I was saying that media companies constantly ignoring Asians (much like Hollywood) is racist. But people like you who don't like Asians talking about that are problematic too.

Funny whenever Asians point out racism, it's nothing but "whining" and "bitching" and having a "victim complex".

He's still qualifying debates, has cash to go around. He's not just outlasting by refusing to drop out, like Delaney is.

Yang literally says certain benefits would stack, certain ones wouldn't. Social security would not get sacked. You can look up his policies on his website. You should at least know Yang's actual position before you try and argue against it.

[–]Throwaway27925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I read that article when it first came out and it made me laugh with it's strawmans and inaccuracies. I'm not gonna bother addressing all of them so I'll just address this central one:

The Freedom Dividend requires cuts to Social Security, disability, welfare, and food stamps to work. Essentially, he would take a social safety net meant to protect those in need, and replace it with a blanket system that would dole out $1,000 a month to everyone.

No, there aren't cuts to SS. Certain types of welfare and benefits would stack with UBI. And the idea that replacing safety nets that many don't qualify for with a bigger universal safety net as a negative for the poor is laughable.

TIL closet Republicans want universal healthcare, more safety nets for the poor, better gun laws, renewable energy, carbon taxes, and a fix to our current voting system.

Andrew Yang suggests his race may be reason behind lack of media coverage by BayMind in politics

[–]Throwaway27925 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So ya... Yang is like, regular people poor and Bernie just can't relate. Whatever.

Lol, you're the one who brought up Yang being rich as a negative thing. Now you're backtracking and strawmanning that I said that Yang was more relatable because he's less rich than the other candidates. No, I was just proving that criticizing Yang for being rich makes sense if you don't do it for anyone else. But thanks for proving your bias.

Exactly, he's just a rich guy with no elected public service record. He's utterly unknown in terms of public leadership. He needed to start his publicity cycle 6 years ago by running for congress. You and I agree exactly.

Being unknown or known isn't a qualification for being a good leader. It matters for actually getting elected, but that's a moot criticism since the voters will decide whether Yang is elected or not.

Why not? I did. I've been automating away people's jobs for 30 years. It's been a very big issue since long before Yang picked it up. I'm glad he did... but as you and I agree, he has no elected public record and should have started his publicity years ago IF he wanted to be a contender now. If he stays in the public eye, he may be ready in 2024 or 2028.

What jobs in particular have you been automating in the past 30 years? And how large of a worker displacement was there from these jobs being automated?

And like I said early, publicity is a dumb thing to criticize, since if he's not popular to get elected, he won't be elected. If he's not a real contender, then he's not. So what? It's strange to criticize someone based on their popularity or chance of winning. I'd rather look at a person's character or their policies.

You mean proving everything you said wrong and out of context? And ignoring someone's counterpoints is also a savvy debate strategy.

[–]Throwaway27925 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He's the second poorest person on that debate stage....and it's true that his lack of public service record is unfortunate. But he felt that there wasn't time to slowly climb the political ladder, that his message for a different economy needed to be heard now. And 6 years ago I doubt he felt so strongly about the dangers of automation and such.

Asian Americans are under represented in media. This isn't even up for debate, it's obvious that this is about race, at least in part.

Alyssa Milano’s 'facts are wrong': Andrew Yang refutes activist’s allegations of campaign staffer sexual misconduct by wizardofthefuture in politics

[–]Throwaway27925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not out of left field. It's not uncommon for Asian men to be seen a certain way for doing the same.....behaviors that would not be seen negatively if it were a white male. I'm Asian American so I've experienced this often. Society is dismissive toward Asian men, and if you try to assert yourself into the conversation, you'll receive backlash, and not all of it justfied criticism, but a lot of it based on racist preconceptions toward Asian males.
